Class act
I drove from NJ 150 miles to try this course out. First, course was amazing and I’m so looking forward to playing it in the regular season. Second the starter was basically 100% what a starter should be. He had a tone of cancelations early in the day but had me and a few others booked for mid day so he stayed open. I don’t know how to express my appreciation better than getting a group of friends together and playing here again. Class act and I’ll be playing this course when situation permits for the rest of my life, amazing course even more amazing staff must play here!!!
Fun course
Tee boxes, fairways and greens are in great condition. Enjoyed the course layout, even though it was very wet.
Creeps
There is some sick stuff going on up at Ely Park Golf Course. Although I’m not an avid golfer myself, I am friends with a handful of the employees at the course. Recently one of these friends of mine was forced to resign after Brian Locke a Pro Shop employee sent explicit photos of her to another member of the staff. Not only did he send these photos, he’s also made comments about her to other members of the staff that are to put it mildly, disgusting. The employee who received these photos from Brian made the other members of the staff aware of these photos and let them know to be careful around him. This employee was then fired by the General Manager Brad Smith who called these acts “locker room banter” and that everything was fine unless he was to actually act on his comments. These are my friends and I know firsthand that the staff at Ely Park are uncomfortable working with Brian Locke. And if that’s not already sick enough, The General Manager Brad Smith is protecting him. These two men are absolutely disgusting.
Must play. Awesome
I was visiting out of state. Best course I have ever played. Great scenery. Fun holes. Challenging. Loved it. I wa told 3 years ago this course was in terrible shape. New management has made this into a must play. I asked Connor, the guy working register to buy a ball maker clip. They didn’t have any. He gave me his OWN clip off his hat. Awesome time.
Good for the price
Interesting holes. Not very difficult but fun, especially on the uphill downhill holes. Certainly worth the price paid.
Really glad you had a positive experience. Thanks for reviewing. Have a great day!
It grows on you...
I've played Ely Park for many years and have weathered the ups and downs and in-betweens. This is a municipally owned but privately managed course. It has its fans and detractors, more due to inconsistent conditioning than design. This has been a very wet summer and as such, the course is greener than usual for late July. The fairways and rough can be spotty and what few bunkers they have are generally unplayable. The greens are normally pretty good and the layout challenging in places. Carts are electric and well maintained. The real charm of Ely Park is often the most overlooked one. You're on top of a mountain with several panoramic views of the city and surrounding countryside. They really have the ideal location. The "pro shop", isn't and the facilities are basic, with the notable exception of the bar/grille upstairs. While the service can be iffy, the food quality is very good and the prices quite reasonable. In summary, if you're in the area and can score a good deal, then Ely is worth a play.
Thanks for taking time out of your day to review us. Hope to see you again in the near future!
