Gullane - No.3 Course

About

Holes 18
Type Private
Style Links
Par 68
Length 5259 yards
Slope N/A
Rating N/A

The Gullane Golf Club No. 3 Course was ready for play in 1910, and now the first and last trios of holes sit on the east side of Highway A198. The other 12 holes lie on the south side of Gullane Hill and offer wonderful views across the Aberlady Bay, of Edinburgh and Firth of Forth.

Do not let the official yardage mislead you: At 5,259 yards, the par-68 golf course looks small, maybe simple, and there's only a single par-5, the 443-yard 14th.

This course, however, will test the most experienced golfer.

Hard to believe this is their 3rd course.

One word that comes to mind when I think of my experience of gullane 3 would be.. fun. I always judge courses on their par 3’s and gullane 3 does not disappoint. The par 3 15th is a fantastic hole. I will absolutely be returning. I have played gullane 2 before and they are both very different yet the course conditions are superb. The greens for the time of year were rolling really well and well looked after.

Had to walk off

The course is a great course, condition of the course was fine. However, we only managed to play 6 holes. The wind was so strong that balls were blowing off the green. You couldn’t place the ball on the tee box mats and my friends drive went 30 yards behind him on the 7th (walked off after that) It was later in the afternoon as well. It wasn’t dying down any, course was unplayable.

Windy

Excellent course although a group of 7 juniours took about 8 holes to let our 3 ball through. Challenging small course in atleast 30 mph winds. Course was in excellent condition and greens were pretty quick. Over all 8/10. Will return

Excellent Course and Facilities

The course (Number 3) was in excellent condition for winter. Having played on winter greens and cored greens for over 2 months now it was a joy to play on fast, true greens!

The guys in the pro shop were helpful and friendly whilst the facilities are top notch.

Overall, a great experience!

Course looks straight forward, but is anything but.

East Lothian Gem

Gullane 3 was a wonderful golf experience. Great staff at the clubhouse and pro shop. Free range balls to warm up. Course was in great condition despite a lot of rain! Would definitely play again!

Excellent Course as Ever

Was sick of playing off mats and in the mud at my course so booked Gullane 3. Superb condition for January with greens spot on and fairways in great condition. Some bunkers GUR but overall just a joy to play. Not been to the new visitors clubhouse before and it was a real standout with great food and service.

Highly recommend, must visit/play.

Gullane 3 is the shortest of the three Gullane courses but no shortage of challenge, features and stunning scenery. New visitors clubhouse and practice grounds very good before and after the round. Nice touch to have practice balls included. Staff always friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend, must visit/play.

Might be Number 3 but nice little track

Originally booked for Royal Musselburgh which was closed due to heavy rains in the preceding days. Just a few miles down the road at Gullane, you'd barely know there had been any rain at all.
Nice little links course which comes into its own in winter when many other courses are closed or in poor conditions.
Lovely views over the bay at Aberlady.
Most holes are pretty flat. There is a biggish hill in the middle so there are 2 holes up and 2 holes down hill which adds nice variety but might be a little steep if you are struggling for mobility.

Really good value for money. £33 for a round can’t beat it. Course is a challenge with lovely views. Definitely going to play it again when it’s not a yellow weather warning.

Good intro to links

Played this in a very strong wind and most of the front 9 were by and large straight into the teeth of the wind, which made for a great challenge even on quite short par 4's. Notably the 4th which is uphill and our balls rolled part of the way back to us! Some lovely par 3's and also superb views out over the water, we played as the sun was setting and got some stunning views. Wind dropped on the back 9 and the run in was great fun. Notably the par 3 16th which in such bone dry conditions was 160 yards and found via an 80 yard pitch and run down the hill! 15th the only disappointing hole as wind with, 400 yard Par 5!! SI2. Found with a driver and 9 iron, so should be a par 4! Decent value for the East Lothian area at £34 a round. Clubhouse is fantastic and putting green/driving range great for arriving early. Starter was a bit hassled and no cards available, which wasnt great.
