Royal Musselburgh Golf Club
About
Royal Musselburgh Golf Club sits at the tip of the renowned span of golf fcourses along the East Lothian coast, and offers picture-perfect parkland play, making it a must-visit. Royal Musselburgh holds the honor of being the world's fifth-oldest, having started as the nine-hole links course, Musselburgh Levenhall. The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, Royal Burgess Golfing Society and Bruntsfield Golf Club have all golfed there.
Royal Musselbergh Golf Club's 349-yard par-4 first hole hides two fairway bunkers to the right. The 477-yard par-5 ninth requires three-shot play when fighting wind: The closer you get to the green after two strokes, the more difficult the pitch. Close down on the 410-yard par-4 18th, where it behooves golfers to carry a big stick, as going right off the tee, rather than carrying the drive to just in front of the green, is a major folly. Non members may pay to use the restaurant and bar, become social members, and get affordable course fare, as well as the chance to attend special events such as dances, buffets, and whisky tastings.

Good course
Enjoyable course to play was busy today and got held up at times, the guy in front seemed to think it was acceptable to be playing two balls on every hole
But overall a good course I would definitely play again
Disappointing experience
fairways and greens in good condition. Lovely hot weather so great. Facilities very poor, code given for ladies changing facilities for door that was not there! Found locker room and code didn't work, had to change in the bar toilet! Arrived at one green to find two empty bottles of iron bru in the bunker? Course full of litter particularly empty mars bar wrappers. Disappointed overall. Wouldn't recommend as perhaps living off its past reputation
Parkland around the castle
First nine were a flat back and forth, and the back nine are challenging undulations. The course was in great condition (fairways & greens) and staff were friendly and helpful, as were the members playing around us….watch out for the 11th as the fairway is shared with the 12th.
Value for Money
A great course for visitors, open layout with generous fairways. Steady pace of play was appreciated. Greens were very acceptable for the time of year. Would recommend for anyone to visit, will definitely return later in the year.
Good course
Enjoyed our round at Royal Musselburgh GC it was fairly quiet and the pace was fine. The greens were a bit bumpy but by no mean bad a good day all in all.
Enjoyable course to play
The experience of playing Royal Musselburgh was a good one. From the friendly welcome from the Pro shop to the slightly testing holes everything went well.
This appears to be a busy course but it is presented in an excellent condition.
The pin positions are good and the greens are protected by numerous bunkers making some of the holes having a challenging approach.
Very enjoyable.
A great course
We (3 ball) really enjoyed our outing to Royal Musselburgh. Despite raining heavily in the morning the course was in great condition and the greens here are superb, rolling true and challenging. It’s a pretty venue with a castle like clubhouse and the course feels like it is a walled garden but big enough for a golf course. Nice views of the Firth of Forth from the 15th green/16th tee. Would happily come back to play the course again.
Great course!
Great course, well looked after, excellent value for money for visitors. Highly recommend.
Lovely parkland course
Very friendly welcome and a really enjoyable round of golf.
Royal Musselburgh experience
Great value for money, a nice friendly welcome from the staff. Clear instruction on where the first tee is. The course conditions were perfect and would highly recommend to friends and family to play. Will definitely be back playing at Royal Musselburgh again.
