Good Value - Slow Course…
My wife and I played this course for the first time today and the pace of play was a little painful. Not sure if it was just volume or the grenade-like craters the cart-path… Was pretty busy with looser tee-time schedule. Greens & Fairways were 3/5 and in decent shape for the amount of players the course shoulders. Staff was super friendly and helpful.
1 star if considering the standard rates, 2 if you get a big discount
It's very frustrating to see this course in the shape it's presently in. It's always going to have some quirks due to the landscape -- highly slanted fairways that drop way off on the sides, etc. -- but it's kept up so poorly now. The rough is ridiculous; it's not just that it's long -- although it IS way too long for most recreational golfers to be able to deal with and still enjoy a round -- it's that it's filled with weeds and grass clippings AND crazy long and ready to turn all of your barely-missed fairways into long searches and/or lost balls. The greens still roll reasonably true, but while they used to be a strength of the course, many now feature large burnt-out areas and/or serve as nests for gigantic hole-digging sand wasps. Lately, flags have been placed in stupid locations on a regular basis. The fairways used to be decent, but now many of them are filled with weeds and crabgrass. Many areas that used to be bunkers are no longer sand-filled, which is fine, but instead of being properly cleaned-up and seeded with grass, they are hard-pan areas filled with stones. The carts paths are in horrible shape. Some of the folks in the clubhouse don't pay a ton of attention, so it's not unusual to catch up to groups with more than four people in them playing ridiculously slowly or for a group to jump out and start on the 10th hole even when people are coming off the 9th green, etc.
It's amazing that anyone is willing to pay the full rate to play this course. The only reason that people not at the "resort" play the course is that there is not a single nice, reasonably-priced, full-length public course within 30 minutes of Morgantown. Paradise Lake is the best-kept affordable course in the area, but it's only a 9-hole course and it's short. It's frustrating that if you're willing to drive 40 minutes to an hour from Morgantown, there are a number of beautiful and affordable public courses, but that if you're closer to Morgantown, where many more people actually live, there is nothing. I wish the new owners of Mountainview and Lakeview would visit some of those courses and take notes. It's not that there couldn't be better affordable public golf in Morgantown; it just seems like the course owners in the area have no interest in making it happen. It's a shame. Mountainview is on a beautiful piece of land, but is now typically left in very poor condition. At least at Mountaineer, the other 18-hole public course in the area aside from Lakeview, the rates are slightly more reflective of the shape that the course is in. (Lakeview has many of Mountainview's problems, if to a less extreme extent, but its rates are even higher.)
Terrible
I’ve never seen a golf course fall into such bad disrepair. The greens are absolute garbage. One of the flag sticks wouldn’t even stay up because the cup was full of sand? The greens never grew back properly after they got aerated due to lack of care and now it’s like playing Plinko… will the ball roll left, right or go straight… WHO KNOWS!! I was a member at lakeview for a number of years awhile back and have played mountainview countless times. I live 10 minutes away and will never go back… never.
This is one of the few places to play
The surrounding area of homes are very nice. The clubhouse is kind of primitive. Very hilly course and the cart paths need a lot of attention. But the staff was nice.
Hello, Michael. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the condition of the cart path. Worst golf course on the planet
ZERO and I mean ZERO maintenance. Greens have multiple dead patches, bare spots and the occasional crater. Abandoned bunkers overgrown with weeds and tee boxes that are a mixture of crabgrass and bare patches. The owners should be ASHAMED of themselves. This is NOT a golf course. It wouldn’t even qualify as a pasture with most discerning cows.
Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve and are working diligently to improve the course. Thank you for playing and we hope to see you again soon.

Better on the second date
The course is a great course at the price paid on GolfNow. This is a course that is played better the second round. A few holes are blind shots, so knowing the course helps. The greens need just a little help (some dry spots). I will be back to play, plus my playing partner will bring his friends too.
Thank you for the wonderful review! Practice makes perfect, so we're happy to see you'll be back again soon with more friends!

Grass needs cut!!
Ok layout...rough was completely crazy!! No rain this week and rough was so terrible!! Even the areas that was cut had old grass trimmings in it!! Found 10 balls just walking alongside fairway. Greens not bad but worst possible pin placements...all on hills!! Beautiful Friday afternoon and only half dozen cars...now I know why!!!!

Mountainview - No Staff
Tee times start at 7 AM. Clubhouse locked, no staff. 7, 7:10, and 7:20 golfers can't play as no one is there and no carts out. Called Lakeview and was told to wait 15 minutes then call back if nobody shows up. Groundskeeper came by and got us carts. Don't offer early tee times or hire reliable staff.
This course layout is good
Course is not in bad shape. Needs some improvement on cart paths and the clubhouse needs a little more revamping for food and drinks. I know they have new club cars with computer yardage but there should be signs/markers around the greens and hills where you shouldn’t drive. I recommend this course and I think this is a beautiful layout Very strategic holes
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we appreciate your business. Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa - Mountainview thanks you!
Rough super long with dead grass on top slowed play to hault after 5.5 hrs left on 16
disappointed
I have played this course many times in my life but it had been a couple years since i last played i was excited to get to play until after i teed off the fairways had hardly and grass and the greens had even less. I was very disappointed to say the least there was o for in club house just a couple of sodas. the carts were beat up broken windshield and just over all upsetting
Great potential, overpriced.
It’s tough to see... I have loved this course for years. But, the course conditions do not reflect the price of a round. It’s probably tough to take care of greens and other course characteristics when it’s etched into the side of a mountain. But, there just seems more a lack of care for the quality of the course. Hope it reevaluates price, improves greens.
