East Lothian's Whitekirk Golf and Country Club allows golfers to unwind and play a round of golf on a tough 18-hole course that offers a combination of tradition, class, hospitality and elegance in lovely surroundings. About 2 miles off the coast, Whitekirk offers a links feel for a game played on lush, soft, green fairways. Cameron Sinclair designed the golf course, using indigenous water hazards and unwinding terrain to create a fun test for every level of player.

The test at Whitekirk Golf and Country Club is apparent from the start, as play kicks off on the 492-yard par-5 first hole, appropriately named the Awakener. The front nine closes out on the 328-yard par-4 New Mains. Close out the round on the 409-yard par-4 Auldhame, which plays downhill and usually downwind.

After the round, hit the Whitekirk Golf and Country Club Restaurant, which serves contemporary Scottish cuisine and traditional British fare, often made with ingredients from local suppliers.

Great Scottish Course!!! Fun to play

Off the beaten path a bit but exactly what we were looking for. Course is in good shape, staff is friendly and nice views of countryside and sea. We would play there again.

18 holes at Whitekirk

I enjoyed this course very much - everything was in good condition and great value . Some interesting holes and great views of the surrounding country side . My tip is to chip and run into the greens - the ground was firm and it was difficult to pitch onto the greens downwind . Tim Lloyd

Long challenging course for the better player.

Played Whitekirk at a bargain basement price thanks to the massive "Golf Now Saving" but have to say this has got to be one the most demanding golf courses for a bag carrier like myself...

Never again would I carry my clubs around this course...

I'm not the fittest in the land but I manage no problem to carry my clubs around the likes of the braids and longniddry but they don't even touch this course in terms of fitness level required.

So... If visiting for the first time I really would advise hiring a buggy to enjoy this very challenging course to the full...

As for the course itself... It has beautiful views for miles around and you'll be stopping for plenty of breathers to admire these :P believe me.

The course appeared well maintained with lovely but very tight narrow greens...

My only real gripe was the blind holes which caught me out a few times... You definitely need to purchase the course handbook from the shop so as to know the lay of the land a bit better than I did even with my SkyCaddie SGX.

Will I go back?

Yes, but will be hiring a buggy and making sure it's not a ladies medal day as the round was very slow.

Great course, a few tricky bits, great views, friendly staff.

Late winter, preferred lies, a bit blowy - great golfing experience.
Play on top and around a wee hill with some classic Scottish gorse bushes. Hole 5 is great fun as is Hole 17 - got to rank as one of the best views as you approach the green. At 6500 yards and some undulations, you know you have had a good test as you relax by the log fire in the Clubhouse. Staff really friendly - will return in the Summer.
