The Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club bills itself as "the only golf resort in the local Edinburgh area." It makes a good base to reach other Scottish golf destinations. Dalmahoy is a top draw, designed by James Braid in 1927. It hosts upper-tier golf events and has featured names such as Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, and Colin Montgomerie. Two golf courses sit on 1,000 acres of some of Scotland's most magnificent landscape, encircled by woods, waters and the Pentland Hills. Each offers unique tests for all levels of golfers.

Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course - site of the 2006-08 Scottish Senior Open and several Scottish PGA Championships - offers 18 holes and 7,475 yards of par-72 golf. A 2005 redevelopment of the course ran about $2 million. On Ye Go from the very first hole, as it is called, a monster of a starter, a par-5 that measures 532 yards from the blue tees.

Battle the Devil's Table, The Ha Ha and the marathon 605-yard par-5 Braids Brawest, and you'll reach Solheim, the final hole on the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course, where you'll need to finish the day by clearing 460 yards in four strokes.

Excellent course

The east course is the longer of the two courses at Dalmahoy. As an 18 handicapper it can be a challenge but although long most fairways are fairly wide which helps avoid trouble of the tee!
Recommended especially on a sunny day.

A great course clouded by a few winter amendments

Played the East course for the first time in 10 years since being a member. Really nice course and enjoyable day but clouded by a few fixable things and some that can’t be helped.

Firstly we were rushed onto the tee 10 minutes early and usually being sent off early would be great but not in the case. We were closely followed by two two-balls, one of which were playing ridiculously fast behind us, to the point they were hitting through us. My partner and I were not playing slow at all.

1 & 4 were winter greens but was actually two holes cut out in the ground.

Dalmahoy East

For starters I had booked the wrong date. The staff were absolutely fantastic, friendly and accommodating, they adjusted our booking and got us out on the course without a fuss.
Due to the weather and time off year the tee boxes were brought forward and shortened the overall distance however, the course was in fantastic condition given the recent downpours to which the green keepers had it playing like it was the middle of summer. The greens were aerated and still ran at a decent pace and without much hindrance to putting.
The grounds, course layout and staff were all fantastic and I can’t wait to be back.

Not seen at its best

I would really like to play Dalmahoy East course again, but during the summer. We didn't see it at its best as most of the tees were positioned well forward, with tee markers plonked on the fairways and only a few off mats. There were also quite a few temporary greens. I think it probably is a good layout with plenty of bunkers, but not during the winter.

Frosty Round

Blue skies but heavy frost made the ground very hard and the greens where they weren't temps, covered in ice. The sun did clear most of this by the 9th. Mostly temp tees too. Bunkers like concrete, again due to the frost.
Scenery was great with occasional views of the QE2 bridge and the Firth of Forth.
The frost ruined the round even more than my golf. This would be far better in slightly warmer conditions.

Great test of golf.

Played the East Course at Dalmahoy with two friends. It's a great test of golf. We played it off winter tees which made it considerably shorter than it would normally be. Even so it was a very enjoyable. The greens were a little bumpy as you'd expect in February - that didn't detract from our enjoyment. I'm sure we'll be back. I'd definitely recommend.

Good course, location and hotel

I'm play in very windy day (up to 45m/h wind gusts) but course was in very good condition and very dry after previous rainy day. Good location, little boring front 9 quite easy, challenging back 9 especially 18 hole, lots of blind spots and unfortunately no bells ( only 1 working). Generally, a nice place for play. However, when you pay £50 to play championship course you expect some quality, l know it's winter but temporary greens on the front 9 it's a joke (guys it's a championship course!) so please...., some £20 - £15 course has a much better temporary greens.
