Dalmahoy Hotel, Golf & Country Club - East Course
About
The Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club bills itself as "the only golf resort in the local Edinburgh area." It makes a good base to reach other Scottish golf destinations. Dalmahoy is a top draw, designed by James Braid in 1927. It hosts upper-tier golf events and has featured names such as Greg Norman, Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, and Colin Montgomerie. Two golf courses sit on 1,000 acres of some of Scotland's most magnificent landscape, encircled by woods, waters and the Pentland Hills. Each offers unique tests for all levels of golfers.
Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course - site of the 2006-08 Scottish Senior Open and several Scottish PGA Championships - offers 18 holes and 7,475 yards of par-72 golf. A 2005 redevelopment of the course ran about $2 million. On Ye Go from the very first hole, as it is called, a monster of a starter, a par-5 that measures 532 yards from the blue tees.
Battle the Devil's Table, The Ha Ha and the marathon 605-yard par-5 Braids Brawest, and you'll reach Solheim, the final hole on the Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club's East Course, where you'll need to finish the day by clearing 460 yards in four strokes.

Dalmahoy East
I booked this course last minute on a golf now hot deal and I came recommended by a local taxi driver. The course is FSI and laid out nicely and well maintained. An abnormally warm few weeks made the course hard and the balls ran on the fairways and greens. Overall I really enjoyed playing this course and wound up playing with 3 locals whom were very nice and made the round enjoyable. I was able to walk 18 and I’ve had a knee replacement in the last few years. If you’re in town it’s a well priced local course. I would go back again. One more thing the course does play long so be ready.
Grand Day Out
Treated ourselves to a round on the Championship East Course since could afford it using all my Golfpass credits! Course was excellent condition. Facilities at the hotel are good and the the starter was friendly and helpful. Once we save up will do it again!
Course was in good condition for time of year but winter tees were very far up many of the fairways
Dalmahoy during the winter.
Negatives - Long walks between greens and winter tees, From normal tees this would have been a challenging course, but shortened the day I played with the odd winter green thrown in. The actual greens were slow but that suits my game LOL.
Positives - Warm welcome by all the staff, and Jimmy at the starter box was very knowledgeable and sent me out with a spring in my step.Nice way to start a round with Jimmys positive thoughts. Lucky to play on a lovely day.
Good value golf
Thoroughly enjoyable round on the testing East Course..
Understandable, given the time of year, there were a number of winter tees in operation but it didn’t detract from our day.
Not informed of course situation
I played a round and after trying to upload it to the Scottish golf app it said that the course was not available. Therefore the round became null and void and did not count towards my handicap. I wasnot told this prior to teeing off.
Lovely layout
Played towards the end of October, following a few days of rain. The course had held up quite well considering, although the greens were very soggy. Don't think they had been cut as a result of the weather. That said a thoroughly entertaining course, with undulating fairways and well bunkered greens. A long course off the back pegs, so forward markers for me. First time playing here, and overall I would definitely come back for another crack at it.
Great course that could be better
The layout of the course is an interesting parkland course with decent length to challenge most levels of golfer. It is also quite open and forgiving to people who are prone to squint shots.
It has superb potential but overall is let down by the standards set for tees, fairways, greens and bunkers. It looks like the greenkeeper either lacks staff and resources or doesn’t really care.
I am keeping in mind that it is October and Scotland. I play at a parkland course locally and the winter program has started there too. The difference is that we are still on the full course. Some of the tees were 100 yards forward at Dalmahoy. The greens had been sanded but didn’t look like they had bothered to hollow tine them. The overall result was that the ball plugged and stopped on approach shots and then the ball wondered everywhere when putting. It was notable that nobody had been repairing pitch marks. Clearly they thought, why bother!
I hope someone else takes over the hotel quite honestly because it has the potential to be one of the best courses near Edinburgh. I will be back but will wait for the summer months and hope that they make more effort then.
Beautiful course
I always worry about Hotel courses, but the East Course at Dalmahoy is a delight. I adored the back 9; there's so much variety. Stunning condition too. It is however a busy course, so the earlier you play the better.
Great parkland course good challenge and nice mixture of holes .
Great course! Challenging and fun!!
Played as a 2 ball for the first time at Dalmahoy East and it was great!
Course was in near perfect condition for the start of the season!
Took under 4 hours and for such a long demanding course that was fine with us!
And the weather was phenomenal which always helps!
The East course is both challenging for shorter and longer hitter where it provides chances for birdies/eagles but can be penalised for finding one of the many bunkers dotted around the course!
I will definitely be back!!
What a steal
Booked this on Golf Now for £21 what a steal that was. Course lay out is excellent. Not many short holes on this course and plenty of bunkers (most I have ever seen on course) so pretty demanding for a hacker like me. Really enjoyed it greens could do with a bit of work but playing early April maybe explains it.
