Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
I have played this course many times so I now know what to expect. The thing that bothers me most is that even when going as a single there is absolutely no chance of finishing a full round in under 5 hours. I played 11 holes yesterday (1-9, 10, 18) and it took 3 hours 50 minutes. They really need to figure out how to speed up the pace. Other than that, the course was in decent shape for this time of year.
Spring golf
I found the course to be in reasonable shape, with some aeration of tees and fairways. The greens are inconsistent speed wise, but decent.
Losing Customer
Very poor green conditions in mid-April. Worse, delayed start time of 20 minutes made round end in almost 5.5 hours.
Value not there in course condition or management.
The course is great
The whole experience was good except for feeling a little rushed or was like our tee times were too bunched together. Other than that it was great.
Classic layout and greens
Split Rock has challenging track, good length, very good greens in good shape especially for Early March, classic undulations with Elephant humps but fait pin placements. Bunkers have good sand although unkempt during winter.
Condition improved by present management. I’ve played course for 50 years.
Greens
Classic ply contoured green we’re in superb condition especially considering end of winter.
This is an excellent track reflecting classic design and age.
Needs serious maintenance
The tee boxes were mostly muddy with missing tee box colors. The greens had many divots and hole 3 had plastic over green, making them create a hole on large fringe to accommodate, but awful to putt on.
Full course, limited staff.
Understandable that the course in January would play rough but not having someone tending to the motorized golf carts that we paid for and leaving it to us to figure out which ones work and which don’t isn’t right when charging full price. Every golf cart was a mess and they were all covered in water (including the roofs which as soon as you moved dumped all their water into your golf bag). If you are going to be open, staff accordingly or don’t open.
Great value but slow pace of play
Played on a Friday afternoon and took 5.5 hours. Pulled up to the second tee box to find 5 groups on the hole and knew it was going to be a long round. 8 min tee times simply not enough for the number of recreational golfers the course sees.
Course itself is a fun and challenging layout and in good shape, especially for a New York muni. Price is relatively inexpensive and a good value. No driving range but would play again, especially during a less popular time
