Fairways were in good shape two green were damaged Photo submitted by phischman on 08/07/2013
Slow and pricey
Played Split Rock (started on 10). Our round was so slow I had to finish my round with 4 or 5 holes to play, while facing a half hour wait to tee off on a par 3 (on a Tuesday afternoon). The course is fine I guess for a muni, but overpriced for what it is, and not terribly interesting or engaging. Won't bother playing here again.
Lack of communication between golf now and golf course it’s self
Booked my tee time for specifically Pelham course but when i got to course there was an outing that no one was aware of. And was forced to play split rock which wasn’t the course i needed to play. Better communication between courses and golf now need to be better handled so that tee times and courses with dual tracks can be blacked out so no one makes the mistake of thinking they can play a course when in fact they can’t. I lost money on this tee booking because of this !
Pelham Bay is The Older Course
On property and has the quirkier bunkering. Greens are. It as funky as Split Rock, but still have some undulation to them. I have always like both courses on the property as they are older and full of charm.
Pelham can be very slow based on when you play it, but still an oldie but goodie.
Second Favorite Course of NYC Publics
Absolute love the John Van Kleek greens in this course. Very cool that Van Kleek from the Stiles and Van Kleek architects came to work in NYC during the Great Depression and worked on their courses.
The greens are the highlight of this course and make it worth a trip. Conditions and pace of play can be iffy, but still worth the play.
Stay away.
The worst shape of any ever played, Tees/greens air rated, no notice. Traps were full of debris logs no rakes on entire course. No rangers. NYC should close or get new mgmt.
Absolute Rollercoaster
65 degrees in March at a NYC course.. I guess you can’t expect much more than “at least we’re playing” type of round. 50 min delay off the first tee. Construction everywhere. Swamped conditions. Feel like “just happy to be playing” is the standard for NYC tracks so maybe in a vacuum Pelham is a decent option? Had some length and trees so that’s nice. I’ll give it another shot in prime season but likely will continue to do whatever I can to avoid playing city courses. Having 36 is cool though
Early morning lovely
It's a very nice course, grounds maintenance is great. Eventhought it was cart path only early morning due to grounds maintenance, I didn't mind cuz the fairways were beautiful. Greens speed was a little wonky due to morning moisture but in good shape. 2 ppl, 3 hrs, I loved it. Arrive a little earlier due to parking, walk uphill to proshop, back downhill to cart pickup.
