Great Golf in NYC
I've lived in New York all my life and have been playing golf for over 25 years. Most of the time, I drive North to courses that are well maintained and I can play in 3 1/2-4 hours. I knew of Van Cortlandt Park, but until this year, never played the course. I assumed it was an overcrowded city course that was beaten up by the number of rounds played there each year. Boy was I wrong. I've now played the course 6 or 7 times and have been amazed at how well maintained it is and the efficiency of the staff in moving play along. The course, itself, is in excellent condition and appeals to players of all levels. There haven't been any long waits like you might find at other public course...in fact, most times, I got out right on time. Overall, this course is a lot of fun to play. Already looking forward to playing it throughout the Fall.
Needs some work
Greens were ok, but t boxes were in poor condition.
A near choice around NYC but not wise
I am a traveler to NJ. I chose this course in the end because of the Tee time 06:21AM. Although I played better than my average (1 bird, 6 par and with two holes explosive), I would not recommend this course. Length is short and condition is not good, ground hard and green not flat enough.
Good course but tees in rough condition
Van Courtlandt is usually an excellent course but the tee boxes have been a disaster, no tee markers and the tees are completely filled with sand, not in golf season shape at all.
Front office is not friendly nor helpful
The staff at the pro-shop is not helpful but it’s very rude, I’m
Not allow to bring my wife as a ride along although I’m paying for her to be in the cart with me, the tee boxes are in terrible condition and the greens and not well maintained, it’s a shame because I really like the course
Could be so much better
It is kind of sad to see that America's oldest public golf course is not in the best shape. The cart path is beat up, things aren't properly signaled, the staff was at the clubhouse wasn't friendly, there were no tee markers, the trash bins were broken, there were no ball washers in any holes, I found myself in a bunker without a rake to clean up. It could be a great course; it has a great layout especially for beginners like me but it just needs a lot of maintenance.
It's nice to on a decent day in February
There aren't many courses open
Sharing a cart
They refuse to let me use my own cart. They charge you $25 and expect you to drive around in a cart with someone all day that you do not know. And enjoy yourself as you would buy yourself. I smoke cigars and enjoy smoking them, I don’t think it’s necessary to burden someone with my cigar smoke all day. I understand if it was the middle of the summer and the course was packed but it wasn’t unacceptable. Unpleasant experience ruined my day!
Pricey but fun
First time playing this historic course. Feb round so not crowded. The course was in decent condition considering it was winter.
Fun Course. Despite 5500 yds for the mid tees, there are two 550+ yd par 5s, which is long for my group. $70 w/ cart, a bit pricey for Feb. But I'd like to come back again.
Van cortlandt
Tee boxes a lil sparse and greens still
Remnants of being punched and def affected putts
Usually one of my favorite courses
It was extremely long round over 5 hours. Usually under 4 hours. The price is ridiculous came out to $84 per guy.
Nobody out there getting the course moving. I like this course very much but no way I can handle another 5+hour round.
