Poor Conditions
I played the west course of Churchville Golf Course on May 23, 2023 and the conditions were poor to say the least. The entire course is covered in dandelions as if there is no course maintenance at all. I found this to be true on another Monroe County Park Golf Course this year also. I've played all of the county park courses for the last three years and these are the worst conditions I have ever seen. They should be embarrassed.
Decent Muni Value - Wide Fairways
Played here while visiting Rochester for the 2023 PGA Championship. Staff friendly and helpful, needed to rent a pull cart for walking. Course your average muni, nothing spectacular, only complaint is with a yellow ball and all the dandelions in the fairway, it made for a challenge to find my ball. I didn't have a white one to swap out. Otherwise good confidence builder, wide fairways especially after walking around Oak Hill with those tight ones! Played 9 in just under 2 hours, easy to walk.
It plays longer than the scorecard indicates.
The west course was closed due to it being too wet for carts. The other two nines were very good, especially the greens. They would get more play if they lowered their cost per round.
Churchville
The endless rain this year has hurt the conditions of this course. The staff is friendly and the pace of play was average.
Bang 4 ur buck
I've played there 4 times, always a pleasure. Fairways and greens in great shape, tee boxes are very good. Love going back there, and will again!
Had a great day...
...a downpour of rain the night before left some water on the course, which was otherwise in great shape. Will be back again this season!
Churchville
Had not played the course in years. When I returned the layout was different. I liked the old well enough but the improvements to the east nine are challenging and enjoyable. Still has drainage issues on the south nine and a bit long for seniors from the whites and too short from the yellows. I do recommend you give it a try. You will enjoy it. If you like walking it's an easy walk as well
Save your money and your time
Years ago, this course was well maintained and picturesque. Now it's a mess. Uncut areas, downed trees and foliage everywhere extremely high grass just off the fairways. It's not because this season has been wet and they can't get in to cut it's got to be either a lack of staff or they just don't care. Since the new management came in, it's gone downhill, if that's possible. Tindale did a horrible job and this new guy is worse. As long as the public keeps showing up and paying the place will be left in the terrible condition it's in. It's a shame. The Rochester area is golf rich when it comes to number of economically priced golf courses. Try some of the others. Deerfield, Durand Eastman (same management) Salmon Creek, Batavia CC, Parkview Fairways, Lakeshore, Farview, Timber Ridge.... I can keep going. Too bad about Churchville because the Pro there, Tom Bolduc is a great guy.
good municipal course
Three nine hole courses allow flexiblility for playing time. Staff is very helpful getting one to play quickly if that is a goal. Good course for average players. Better players may think course is easy but still hard to score especially back nine with some tricky water holes!
Cost of play is a bargain with golf now hot deals
I play one to two rounds a week mostly at Churchville .It has been an exceptionally wet spring and summer thus far whereas golf carts have not been allowed on a few occassions.A drainage improvement is needed.
Slow play
Pace of play was pain staking slow!! Had a hard time finding ball within all the weeds in the ruff.
Nice surprise hidden gem
First time playing course and was pleasantly surprised. Great fall golf, was in great shape for November 10th. It's a mature treelined, yet fairly open course. Greens were receptive and rolled true. Look forward to playing again when conditions are ideal. Played all 27 holes and found them to be all unique and challenging. Friendly and helpful staff. Great deal on golf now. Will go back. Thanks for a great day Churchville!
Getting there
Course is getting much better. One of the better county courses because it is generally not to busy bust the work they are putting into the course is showing!!
it's not busy because the conditions there stink.
Great shape!
They've done a lot to clean this course up, and have done an excellent job. Haven't played the West course yet, but the front 9 and back 9 are in great shape. The only downside was pace of play. Had a 3 some in front(I was playing as a single), that refused to let anybody play thru. So, it took an hour and a half longer than it should have. There's never an excuse for a 3 some to NOT let a single play through. Other than that, I love playing this course, and will continue to.
Wow
Played north & east twice now, haven't played there for 25 years. What a pleasant surprise! Fairways & green were in great shape. Highly recommend!
Course seems very long.
For a long hitter that might spray a little, this course lets you swing away. The EAST course has a few holes where you have to go over water, which is very challenging to a novice golfer. The WEST course is pretty dried out, however t is very long. Also, the South course is a typical 9 holes, with no traps!
The Monroe County Parks Department is responsible for maintenance at all three county courses. Black creek and Lake Ontario have had an awful effect on the conditions at both Churchville and Durand. Hopefully with this dry spell the mowers can get caught up.
