The Mecca
Twain is the Mecca of Southern Tier golf. If you're going to make the pilgrimage to the Southern Tier (which I don't recommend) make sure you stop at Twain. This Donald Ross design will test every facet of your game, and the course is always in great shape. I grew up 15 minutes away and anytime I come back to the area, I always stop at Twain.
Best Course In The Area By Far!
This course is the best course in the area. The value you get for what you pay is probably the greatest value I've ever gotten. This course is always in such great condition the value for what you pay is unbelievable. The fairways are always perfect and the greens are some of the best I've ever seen for a public course. The rough is generally not too thick so accuracy is not a major concern. The greens are some of the hardest I've ever putted on. The undulations and speed are just ridiculous on some holes. If you're above the whole just take the 3 putt and move on. If you can putt well here you can putt well anywhere. Overall a very challenging course once you get around the greens but the value for what you pay is the best I've ever seen. Must play!
rain,but great staff,condition
taking friend for firtst time, could easy use golf now rain canc, but did not. With pending rain and a tourney ending, they offered to get us out early, even comp a bucket of balls.Assistant pro was kind enough to not put us with anyone as friend was 2nd year golfer and she was nervous.was on a discounted amount. Course in good condition with all-summer dryness, but heavy rain last two days.
Very fair and enjoyable layout
I thoroughly enjoyed my round at Mark Twain, the conditions were very nice, fairways were lush, the rough was very manageable and then the defense of the course, the green complexes. They are very undulating on most holes but not too punishing the day we played after a good rain. I can imagine the greens could be set up to be very punishing but the speed was very fair and they held every approach shot. The trouble off the tee is very minimal and you can get away with an off day with the driver on most holes. For me the par 3's presented a challenge as all were relatively long and uphill so club up would be my advice. It's a course I wish I lived closer to (1.5 hour drive) as I could see myself really enjoying playing here over and over. Go Play!
Incredibly surprised at how nice it was!
I was hesitant to but this round, not being from the area. I saw it was a city-owned course, which usually indicates bad conditions. I saw the reviews from others that said it had a nice conditions, so I tried it. They're having a pretty bad drought in the area and while most of the rough was dried up and dead, the tees, Fairways, and greens where in outstanding shape. I will definitely be going back the next time I'm in the area!
Mark twain
Great conditions greens are quick and undulating. Fun course to play if you play from the blue you will use every club in your bag.
Mark Twain
A very nice Donald Ross course. The course was in great shape. It may be short but challenging with false fronts on some of the greens and very rolling greens. Also very fast. Good value for the price
Great greens
A fun course to play. We rode and played quickly as we had an early tee time, we like to walk and probably would next time as the course was very walkable.. My wife played the forward tees and she thought they offered a great/fair alternative. Greens were in great shape. Overall course condition was good. Bring your short game as chips and pitches along with a good putting game will be needed to score on this course. We would definitely play again when in town.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow
This is the only Ross course in the area, and it is a challenge. Not so much for its length or layout but for the greens. Unless you've played there enough you will be shaking your head. That said, the challenge is a lot of fun and they rolled nicely. We will return.
Awsome greens
Great course good test for all level players greens are amazing roll true with lots of undulation
Donald Ross is devious!
The undulating Donald Ross designed greens will do you in! If you can putt here, you can putt anywhere. Fun course to play with just enough sand, water and elevation changes to keep you honest.
Excellent Suprise Gem
I saw the course as I drove by, turned around and asked if a single could get out at 10 a, on an Sunday. They fit me in and I am glad they did!
A challenging rolling hill course with Donald Ross design which means not a straight putt! The course was in excellent condition. A very good time. I was tempted to cancel my flight out the next day to play it again it was such a good course! I highly recommend this course if you are near Elmira or Watkins Glen.
