Terrific old-school course

I was torn on the rating because I really enjoyed this course and thought it was close to a 4 star. In my opinion it has the most interesting greens of the four Bethpage courses I have played (not the green complexes, but the greens themselves). They have more undulation and contour, and interesting shapes, than the Black, Red, or Blue. Most of the course is on the same part of the property as the Black, and the layout is excellent. The course routes through property that rolls and elevates without being severe. It is a great walk (except for a couple of VERY elevated tee areas and raised greens). Many holes dogleg or sweep one way or the other, and you have to think about position off the tee and distance on quite a few holes. There are some elevated shots but not too many blind ones. None of the holes seem too long and there are some good short par-4s that challenge you with small or narrow greens. Most of the bunkers are at the greens rather than the fairways and many of the greens are open to approach shots from the right spots on the fairways. A few holes are fairly straightforward but none are bad. This is another Bethpage winner of a golf course.

Much better shape

I’m giving the green a 4 because I’ve seen it in a lot worse shape. The greens and fairways are in really nice condition. The greens are slow and the grass is high, but honestly that’s the only way they won’t die. Unfortunately many weekend warriors don’t understand how to fix and repair their marks or don’t care. I’ve even seen people swing off the greens at bethpage before. So yea the greens were slow, but at least they weren’t destroyed. I’d really like the grounds crew to get more water on the rough. It was hard pan in many areas. I have to say though, I like the layout of green so much more than yellow and blue so it was nice to get out there and see it is getting some of the attention.

Now to be bad, the pace of play was awful and that is the case many times at bethpage. The tee times are too bunched up. They really need to get a ranger to come around and move groups because we played over a 6 hour round. The scary thing is that is very common on all, but the black. Also, the halfway house on green has really bothered me this summer. This has been the second time we went to get a hotdog and beverage only to find our t that no hot dogs are ready. I know it’s nitpicking, but it’s something that is easily done and isn’t. Each time you take one off put another on the spinners.

Disappointed

I had high expectations for this visit and was underwhelmed. This was my 5th round of the week and the only one that was disappointing.

weekday 11:16 tee time and it took 5:45 to play. Open holes two groups ahead of us. No ranger in sight all day.

Proximity of tees to greens meant we had errant tee shots passed through our group 3 times.

Bunkers on 1, 2 and 11 had so much sand that the unraked foot prints were 8 inches deep. Total disregard for other golfers and no understanding of the need to leave and enter a bunker on the low side.

I’m guessing that the greens were deliberately long to prevent heat damage and handle ball damage better. The greens were the slowest I played all summer.

We did see the beverage cart on the 3rd hole but never again.

For non residents it’s not worth the hassle of booking a tee time and getting there. Maybe the Black course is different but no return trip for me for the green course.

Solid Course, Hilly

Considering the greens were aerated 3 days ago, I was skeptical about the conditions going in but they actually look like a they have been recovering for a couple weeks, pleasantly surprised. The course has lots of elevated tee boxes and greens making it a tough walk/carry for the first time out this season. The layout has a nice straight forward design, and length off the tee is not necessary. It’s also nice to peek over at some of the black courses holes since it shares the same area of the park.

Windy weather
Walked

Solid course, mostly overshadowed by its neighbors, hilly

This is the second time I played on the Green. It was very quiet, I suspect due to the Masters being on TV. Nonetheless the weather was fair, in the 40s with a little wind mid-day.

Considering that it is only April and we've recently had snow, the course is in pretty decent condition.

While the course is "only" 6,300 from the back tees but you will be walking up and down a fair amount of hills so you will get a good walk in and it will most definitely feel longer than a flat course of comparable distance. Apart from the two times you cross under a road (by tunnel--between 1 and 2 and 17 an 18) there is definitely a feeling that you are out in the middle of nowhere, which is awesome. If you do not have health problems, I strongly recommend walking the course instead of taking a cart, as you will enjoy it more. Just keep in mind, the course does not have a returning 9th hole, so you only play 18 on this one.

The first hole is a miniature version of the black opening hole (and you are literally right next to it) so be ready for a bit of a crowd behind you on busy days. It's kind of cool to turn around and look back up at the clubhouse which is way high on the hill behind you. Once you cross under the tunnel, from there you meander away. There are basically no fairway bunkers, so the holes will seem kind of straight forward, but I think the focus is more on getting the right angle. Also the greens have some pretty interesting contours and are on the small side, so there's that aspect of it...

The finishing hole is my favorite (apart from the occasional heckling motorist) the green is up against the side of the hill that the clubhouse sits on. To the right of you is the opening hole for the Green, and then to the right of that the black's opening and closing holes. You can see the black's HUGE fairway bunkers (on 18) from the tee box of the 18th.

In summary, the Green is kind of overshadowed by its neighbors but a legit course in its own right. Also, as a resident...its $43 at most, $23 for twilight. Totally worth it.

Used cart

Started late but was still great

Frost kept the course backed way up about an hour. Which wasn't the greatest way to start the day. A bit disjointed in checking in and getting a cart which are in different areas with different lines and different payments. Still we finished in a little under 5 hours which around here is great. Really liked the layout of the course, very open fairways on a few holes. Great bunker upkeep. I'll be back for sure. Pro-shop was way sparse though.

Green. Fairly challenging with deceptive length

The green course at Bethpage supposedly ranks as Bethpage's 2nd easiest course. The are many elevation changes off tee boxes, greens, and fairways are moderately wide. High handicap players will be surprised on the difficulty if playing for the first time. Despite people not fixing ball marks on greens, course conditions were great and the track played beautifully. Round was brutally slow but that is normal on a Sunday. Bottom line, for the dollar, it doesn't get much better than any of the tracks at Bethpage.

The green course. Excellent track especially for a public course

Afternoon noon round on Labor Day. Due to hurricane Hermine passing from a far distance, weather was cool and breezy. Course conditions were fantastic except for players not fixing divots in fairways and ball marks on greens.
I always loved the way this track plays. Holes have moderate wide fairways with many elevation changes on tee boxes and greens. Some shorter holes require placement on tee shots and other holes you have to bomb it with the big stick. Just a fun course for just about all levels of players can enjoy.

Beautiful Father's Day round

Afternoon round after the Father's Day morning rush. Weather, course conditions were excellent. Fun fairly wide fairways with elevated tee boxes. This course plays a little harder than yellow due to elevation changes and smaller greens.

Bethpage is the best!

Never a let down at Bethpage. Green is a fun track with some elevation and plenty of open fairways. Walked up as a single on a Tuesday at 10:40, got out by 11:15

Fun course with wide open fairways

62 degrees in February, was glad to get out and play this time of year. Conditions of fairways and greens were just about perfect. Always a pleasure to play any course at Bethpage.

Solid course

If you can't get on Black or Red this is a good option. Course won't blow you away but it's a fun layout. It's a great course to play matches or games with your buddies.

Most underrated Bethpage Course

Green is a beautiful course with a handful of memorable holes. The first hole is parallel to the 1st on Black and is a great hole in its own right. And while not nearly as challenging as Black, Green offers a good test at a very reasonable price point. Course was in excellent shape. Pace of play is slow - the first par 3 is nearly always backed up.

The course can also play short at times. If you're a decent hitter, you can hit over the water on 5 and there's a pretty nice landing area for a very short wedge approach. You also might be able to drive the green on 12, but it takes a heck of a shot.

Green is also a pretty decent walking course - the only major elevation change is going from the 9th green to the 10th tee.

Red is my favorite course to play at Bethpage, but I think Green is a great option too.

Vastly Underrated

This course is very solid and well worth playing.

First, Bethpage is a huge golf complex featuring 5, 18 hole courses, ranging from the super difficult, The Black to the uh, not a fan of either the Blue nor Yellow, though they do get heavy play. The facility, in general, therefore gets heavy traffic, ergo, "pace of play" issues and "are you sure this isn't your first time" players, who can be less than enjoyable.

The Green, a Tillinghast, is a very solid course.

The course plays to a par 71 and the card "suggests" a white tee yardage of 6,100 +, but there have not been blue tees in years, and the whites are often close to the back of tee boxes as possible, so I think it plays about 6,200+ from the "normal" whites. In addition, the holes "appear" to play longer and while the fairways are in good shape, one doesn't get excessive roll, so they play "true". The 17th and 18th, very strong finishing holes, listed @ 408 and 386, both play longer and the bunker left of the 18th green is about 25 yards deep, good luck.

The course features a good mixture of "birdie" chances + some "boy, a par would be nice here" and quite often the tee boxes are significantly elevated, which makes many of the holes "cool" to play.

I'm in my mid-60's and carry a full bag, but if you're of my generation, I strongly recommend a cart, the height changes can be difficult and sometimes the "wait" can require a good sit down.

I'll probably regret this, there go the good tee times, but worth the effort.

Original Bethpage course worth the trip

The Green is the original of the five courses at Bethpage State Park in New York and well worth playing, for the first hole alone, but there are other good holes as well. The first features an elevated tee that runs alongside the famed Black Course, then you cross the street to the right for a pretty fair test of golf. Even from the back tee at 6,300 yards, it's no pushover, but doesn't punish like the Black or the Red. A great warmup for the more difficult courses at Bethpage, to be sure.
