Firstly the amenities where not available on arrival so it was Mcds for breakfast.
Secondly, machine brews only, which to be fair where nice.
Thirdly, we book as a group going mid week when traditionally its rather quiet and clubs are usually glad of the business and normally we get a good deal this was however the worst deal to date we have had as a group and we have played all over Scotland including St Andrews links courses. Fourthly, the lay out of the coarse is rather confusing at points and the pins where different colours so this also added to the confusion. Lastly, the coarse is not in the best of condition especially for this time of the year. On a positive note the staff are very nice and the setting was stunning.
Great weather, great course condition, great Proshop staff.
Great little course
Great course not that difficult great condition and great value for money.
Winter golf, decent challenge
Great value at £10, although playing from mats, onto summer greens .
Clubhouse food decent also.
Worth a visit
Very enjoyable course
Played here end of October, course in good condition , greens were a little slow but understandable as were into winter, good layout, some tough holes into the wind and a few very deep bunkers that need to be avoided, pro was very friendly, clubhouse wasn’t open for business so can’t comment on that, for us handy for railway station, All in all good day,
First time in Scotland.
I played this course on a recent trip to Scotland. The staff couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. They allowed me to play with my BIGGA membership which gave me courtesy of the course.
I found the course a fine challenge and in fabulous condition. The gale force winds made for some interesting golf. Front nine was a breeze but homeward bound was great fun.
A beer and a chat with some locals after was a fitting end to the round.
Please have a look at the course website and membership prices.....wow.
Links with some twists
The course is flat occupying a long but narrow strip so it's mainly 9 holes out, literally, followed by 9 back with only minor exceptions. That having been said it is a course that favours accuracy more than big hitters with bunkers and some small twistsin the fairway. The fairways are not cut that short which often prevents much roll and the rough typical of a links course. Whilst very close to the sea the raised railway line prevents views of it.
Overall I think an interesting course to play occasionally speciall to practice your medium distance accuracy. As with most courses in this area the summer full rate is expensive but bargains can be found if you can be flexible with your timings.
Golf as it was meant to be...
I absolutely loved this place. We walked up at 5:30PM and asked if we could play. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and sent us right out at 6PM, we played in 3 hours, 20 minutes. Then we went into the restaurant and had a great dunner.
So much fun. Feel like this is a golf course that you could play every day and have fun each time. Can't say that about every golf course, but gladly think that about this place. You can change tees if you want, play different shots all over the place...just a lot of fun at a place that I stumbled upon at the last moment. Be careful of the burn that comes into play on several holes. It'll jump up and bite you.
A different links near Carnoustie with great value
I was pleasantly surprised by Arbroath, the links closest to the west side of Carnoustie. It isn't more than 5-10 minutes door-to-door, but presents a totally different piece of land and links design.
For starters, it's more scenic, with nice sea views. It has an out-and-back routing on a pretty narrow strip of land which lends itself to some wider fairways, and there is also one double-green. The green complexes and bunkering are really solid here. The burns that run perpendicular to many holes were a little difficult to manage considering we were playing the course for the first time and we're playing historically dry links this week so the ball is running forever.
It's a great value at £40-45 and definitely worth playing if you're in Carnoustie for a few days, particularly to get some confidence back after getting beat up there.
Lovely links challenge
Lovely challenge on the Scottish coast. Plenty of challenging holes mixed with good chances to score if the ball is kept in play.
Course was in fine condition for a November lunchtime; with a brisk breeze up and down the course keeping players honest.
Excellent pace of play.
Staff in the shop were incredibly friendly and helpful.
Great day and will be sure to be back.
Fantastic welcome & allowed to change tee off time. So many interesting holes. Truly links and challenging to play to one's handicap (11). A must play if in the area. Wonderful holes & greens ran true, but the layout is 9 out almost in a line, with 9 back, so a halfway break not possible.
A proper old fashion links course. Great fun and challenging enough with the breeze.
Good Links course
A nice simple links course. Course was in good condition, green running pretty true and not too fast. Rough wasn't too thick so was possible to hit off line and find your ball on most holes. 1st 7 holes are into the prevailing wind so you will probably make score back coming back in to the clubhouse. Couple of nice par 3's on the course, but apart from that it is a pretty standard links course.
The course was in good condition despite still early in the season.
People are friendly there and I will definitely coming back again
North East Gem!
Fantastic course, great for all handicap levels, well maintained. This was our 4th visit and we look forward to our return trip.
Glad we took advantage of a cheap golf deal to play this surprisingly good course which has always had a good reputation. Although the greens were not at their best due to frost the course was really enjoyable and great value for money. The Par 3's are great holes to play and we will definately be back in the summer when the greens are fast and the rough is up. The welcome from the staff was also first class.
Great value golf
As high handicap players we enjoyed the openness of the course. Greens and fairways were in good condition. Water hazards brought a challenge to a few holes. Great to see ball retrievers where required!
Pleasant course. Good deal for the money. Strange to walk backwards to get to the next tee box.
