Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 11/2019.

The Letham Grange Old Course, designed by Donald Steel and opened in 1987, is artistically laid out, yet retains much rugged Scottish appeal. The many dogleg holes make position off the tee the basis for a good round.
The golf course quickly incorporates narrow tree-lined holes and open, rolling and undulating fairways. A constant feature is the intelligent use of water that influences 13 of the 18 holes.

The par-3 eighth hole is played over a picturesque loch, onto a green surrounded by mature trees and rhododendrons. Possibly the most spectacular hole on the Letham Grange Old Course is the 10th, again over water for the second shot.
The par-73 golf course measures 6,632 yards.

A great experience

First thing to say is that this is not a ‘normal’ golf club. The courses are attached to what was once a lovely hotel but which closed down 8-10 years ago and has fallen into a state of serious dilapidation. The course is maintained by volunteers for whom it is a labour of love. The downside is that they have minimal staff so course maintenance is not what you’d normally expect. The greens are in very good condition however the rough, and semi-rough, is clearly not cut regularly so is very thick (we lost a few balls that disappeared in the semi and we just couldn’t find them). The course itself (we played the Old Course) is a fabulous track. The stretch of holes 7-10 are four of the most interesting and beautiful holes we have ever played. The 8th is a stunning par 3 over water which has visual echoes of Augusta. My summary is this. If you are looking for a perfectly manicured course and a fancy clubhouse then this isn't for you. However if you a want to a) play a scenic and beautifully-designed course and b) help support the staff and members keep their course and club going in challenging conditions then book yourself a tee time.

Excellent Course

Travelled down from Aberdeen to play this course today and it did not disappoint. Excellent layout, a good test for any golfer. Course has had its problems in the past but the staff have got it in great condition and it is well worth a visit. Will definitely be back.

The old course

I was so sad to see the state of the old course at Letham Granage. Everything about it was very poor. Sorry Letham Granage I know you have not got the money.

Rating limited by signage!

This is a great course. The course opens with a couple of friendly warm up holes before showing some teeth. Every hole has interest and challenges - some quite beautifully designed. My wife and I try to play new courses as often as possible and are frequent dismayed by the poor standards of signage - usually "warned" about this by a friendly member, or pro. If you know this is likely to be a problem for visitors - PLEASE spend a few quid.

Great layout, testing holes, all types of shots needed!

I usually play the glens course which is also a great course
The old course made me use every club in the bag and try to hit every type of shot I could think of,
Long par 3s and 4s some great par 5s
You really have to think your way around the course and play for position and plan your round out
Elevated tees on some holes add to the test and if the wind is up then good luck!
