Par 66

Rating N/A

The Course is a fine 4799 yard, Par 66 18 hole, with an SSS of 63. Players from beginners to experts will enjoy its fine springy turf, similar to the surface at the Championship links of Machrihanish just a few miles away.

Spectacular views over the landscape, and over Sanda Island to the South, Ayrshire to the East, and Northern Ireland to the South West, will add to the Golfer's enjoyment of this well kept course with its small lush square greens.

The variety of the holes, from the short "Punchbowl" 4th, to the dramatic long downhill drive from the 11 th Tee, will delight even the purist in Golf Course design.

Dunaverty is just one of several fine courses available within a short distance, and visitors who take a break in Kintyre for a few days will be rewarded with a good choice of easily accessible, challenging and enjoyable courses. Generally, they are uncrowded and very reasonably priced, each is also unique.

Nearby are the fine Championship Links at Machrihanish, which has both 18 and 9 hole courses. A few miles up the East of Kintyre is the scenic but challenging 9 hole course at Carradale, while for variety, the small 9 hole course on the Isle of Gigha (which translates from the Norse as "God's Island") makes a pleasant excursion. At the North end of Kintyre, Tarbert has a fine 9 hole course.

A welcome Respite

Located way south on the Mull of KIntyre, Dunaverty is remote. On a clear day, you can see Northern Ireland. On any day, the Isle Of Arran is in view. This place is not busy at all; I left money in a dropbox in the clubhouse. After thirty six a day in 4 club winds and rain at Machrihanish and Machrihanish Dunes, this course was a pleasant break from championship golf in a deluge.
First of all, if all you want from golf is a test and you are a low handicapper who only appreciates that type of golf then Dunaverty is not for you. If you want to enjoy a quick round in a beautiful setting with greens and approaches that are fun, then this is a place to see. I wouldn't plan an itinerary around it, but if in Kintyre and you've already played both Machrihanish courses, then this is a good place to spend half a day. I would give it three and a half stars.
The course is short and has 7 par 3s and only 1 par 5. The par 3s cover every wind direction and range from 125-245 yards. The par 4s are relatively short drive and pitch holes; however, some of the drives and/or approaches are blind, the holes vary in direction, go uphill and downhill and offer shot options. The one par 5 has a green in a dell. This is links golf and fun-best of all you are done in 2 to 2.5 hours so you have the afternoon or morning to explore Mull of Kintyre.
This is not everyone's cup of tee and I can't recommend it for everyone; however, for certain types of golfers as well as people who want to take in something Scottish; this is cheap and fun.
