A course once described as the place where 'Golf, beauty and the social life, go hand in hand' . In the warm summer months when the skies are clear it has some of the most uplifting views to be found anywhere in the world. Although not one of this fair country's longest courses, if a golfer achieves a score under par here, he or she will have played exceptionally well. With the winding fairways climbing up the hillside, across the gorges and valleys, before leading back down to the club house and finishing over the meandering burn, you will know that you have played over a good golfing challenge.

high handicap visitors

Only started playing during Covid. We were a three ball high handicap group visiting for two days of golf. First time playing this course. Really enjoyed the course, well maintained greens with some forgiving fairways. If you struggle walking up hill you may be challenged but there are buggy’s available. Short game made interesting with some well kept bunker obstacles. Staff were friendly. We enjoyed lunch and refreshments

Course with a view

Although this is not a long course, it was challenging in many ways, with the first few holes uphill before flattening out. It felt longer than the yardages suggest, with the greens in good condition but with subtle reads and relatively quick. The views of the surrounding countryside can only be described as stunning. Got teamed up with a couple of other guests who were good company and, although they had much better handicaps than me, also found the course tricky. All in all, a great course that gives a perfect flavour of golf in Scotland.

A great course in the heart of the highlands.

This is a must-play course. Recently voted the best golf course under 6000 yards. One of the best golf courses under 50 pounds. A friendly atmosphere, great course conditions, super clubhouse, great practice facilities, nice shop... What more do you need.
A great day out with friends.
Highland Golf at it's best.

Great course

Great course. Friendly staff. The only criticism I would have is paying over £5 for a cup of tea and a round of toast.

The best £20 you'll spend on a golf course

This was stunning golf! You can stop at every tee to take a photo of the amazing Perthshire scenery.
The first few holes are quite a climb but once you have played those the reward is fantastic. The greens were in excellent conditions so to were the fairways. At this time of year the clubhouse was closed but the amenities open were first class. Both members of staff were very friendly and efficient.
The only complaint as a visitor was that it was difficult in places to know where the next hole was. It would help if the holes were numbered so not sure we played exactly the course we were meant to, but did it matter. not really because it was a great day.

Excellent course

Excellent course in great condition, some hilly holes, greens in excellent condition. Fantastic views from the high points on the course. Club house was not what I expected, modern and trendy, the sandwiches were huge and lovely. The 14h was a lovely 275 yard downhill hole, managed to drive the green, just missed the eagle putt. Great day, all for £15 on a Wednesday.

Beautiful Pitlochry

I was allowed to take my 7yr old son round and he enjoyed a few holes too . The course itself is set amongst stunning scenery , so even if you do throw in a couple of double bogey's as i did., you soon forget about it ! The Pro was very friendly and helpful , and I also had a lovely meal in the clubhouse afterwards with the remainder of the family. I would definitely play here again !!!

The true definition of a hidden gem in Scotland

I've already proclaimed on Twitter that this is the "best course in the world ... under 6,000 yards."
That claim might be a bit of hyperbole, but until somebody convinces me otherwise, it stands. Pitlochry is 5,692 yards of mountain mayhem. The day starts by climbing up the first three holes. It's arduous. Good luck swinging when you're sucking wind.
The striking views up top are your reward. There are a couple of minor spots that are awkward for first-timers - the approach to the fifth green, which is perched atop a wild mound of furry grass, and the blind downhill tee shot at no. 9 that requires a layup - but otherwise, the layout is pure fun. True to a short course, there are three drivable par 4s - the 277-yard seventh, the 277-yard 14th and 284-yard 17th.
Every round should finish inside the clubhouse, which attracts locals galore for its excellent menu and theme nights (steak, curry, fish, etc.). The world needs more clubs like Pitlochry. For now, it's worth the effort to find the original in central Scotland.
