Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club - The Murrayshall Course
About
The Murrayshall Course at Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club, a championship course on 350 acres of rolling parkland, was designed by Hamilton J. Stutt, the grandson of James Braid's chief foreman. The golf course, which opened in 1981, is built around an imposing country house hotel overlooking the vale of Strathmore and the mountains of Highland Perthshire.
With tree-lined fairways, accuracy is key to a good score on the par-73 golf course that measures 6,489 yards. Large white sand bunkers protect expansive but tricky greens. Natural stone bridges span water hazards that will test the accuracy of iron play.
Murrayshall's 379-yard seventh hole is probably the most testing of the first half of the course. It is a tight dog leg right, with a narrow entrance to the green, well guarded with a thicket of fully grown trees and a burn.

Covid-19 stag do replacement
So this was supposed my best mate stag do where we were supposed to be in Munich. Unfortunately not everyone who was meant to be coming on the stag could make it.
We booked this as something to do. Course was fantastic and the pace was fantastic. The layout was nice and easy to follow. Was a fantastic day out and would highly recommend to anyone.
Already planning the next visit.
Well worth it
Such a great course. Green were a little bumpy at times, but having been closed for 9 weeks, they were impressively well kept. It’s a long course, helped by decent walks between green and tees, but for the sake of getting the best layout. Tight fairways at times also made it a good challenge for most levels of golfers.
A lovely distinctive course in great condition
I have played here around a dozen times over the last 3 years. I have always thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It is a parkland course with very different holes; there is lovely difference to each hole. Challenging I would say for a lowish handicapper , and certainly for the occasional player such as myself. The course was in great condition, which is notable given the amount of rain we have had over the last few weeks. The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the cafe/ bar stocks. We boom using the GolfNow special offers so find it very reasonably priced indeed.
Golf
Lucky with the weather. We really enjoyed it, even though we had to walk the course.some steep climbs. Age 81, I shot a gross 79...yay. Off the yellows. H/C 15. So a great time. Course in excellent condition considering the heavy rain over previous few days.
Always a pleasure
Solid and tricky as ever
Course in good condition.
Great course
The main course at Murrayshall is a great test of golf with excellent views of the surrounding country side. A first class layout that’ll challenge all levels of golfer. I don’t understand why it’s not busier, as it should be!
Winter course layout
Was not aware that all greens were winter greens and 2 holes closed. Course layout slightly changed for Winter which made some lengthy walks and layout very unclear
Challenging but enjoyable.
Tee'd up and had no idea where to go as even with living within 2 miles of this course all my life I'd never played it.
I joined a member on the second tee which proved invaluable for my round and helpful areas to aim.
Course was in great condition still on full greens and tees and the greens were true and of good pace. They weren't cored as most courses are at this time of the year.
A few uphill holes will shorten your drives but coming back down certainly boosted my drives near 300 yards off the tee. Taking a driver and a 9 or a wedge into a par 5 is a tad surreal.
Great pin placements and tee areas. Some certainly challenging holes but not to hard for those with higher handicaps or those who don't hit the ball too far.
Par 3s are testing so get your yardage numbers right or you'll walk off with a 5/6! Similarly the 9th, Devils Elbow. Arguably the most bizarre par 5 I've ever played. I won't tell you any more but make sure your tee shot is correct from tee to fairway. At only 453 it is not as easy as 2 big whacks. You've been warned!
I'm mid to low handicap and found birdies easy to get a chance at but also easy to put yourself behind trees and no shots to the green.
Superb set up and also the Lynedoch up there too, so tempted and impressed by how the green staff look after the course I'm looking at membership.
Par 72 of the yellows, 71 for the Ladies and a 73 of the Whites. From 5045 to 6120 yards.
