The Murrayshall Course at Murrayshall House Hotel & Golf Club, a championship course on 350 acres of rolling parkland, was designed by Hamilton J. Stutt, the grandson of James Braid's chief foreman. The golf course, which opened in 1981, is built around an imposing country house hotel overlooking the vale of Strathmore and the mountains of Highland Perthshire.

With tree-lined fairways, accuracy is key to a good score on the par-73 golf course that measures 6,489 yards. Large white sand bunkers protect expansive but tricky greens. Natural stone bridges span water hazards that will test the accuracy of iron play.

Murrayshall's 379-yard seventh hole is probably the most testing of the first half of the course. It is a tight dog leg right, with a narrow entrance to the green, well guarded with a thicket of fully grown trees and a burn.

Challenging but enjoyable.

Tee'd up and had no idea where to go as even with living within 2 miles of this course all my life I'd never played it.

I joined a member on the second tee which proved invaluable for my round and helpful areas to aim.

Course was in great condition still on full greens and tees and the greens were true and of good pace. They weren't cored as most courses are at this time of the year.

A few uphill holes will shorten your drives but coming back down certainly boosted my drives near 300 yards off the tee. Taking a driver and a 9 or a wedge into a par 5 is a tad surreal.

Great pin placements and tee areas. Some certainly challenging holes but not to hard for those with higher handicaps or those who don't hit the ball too far.

Par 3s are testing so get your yardage numbers right or you'll walk off with a 5/6! Similarly the 9th, Devils Elbow. Arguably the most bizarre par 5 I've ever played. I won't tell you any more but make sure your tee shot is correct from tee to fairway. At only 453 it is not as easy as 2 big whacks. You've been warned!

I'm mid to low handicap and found birdies easy to get a chance at but also easy to put yourself behind trees and no shots to the green.

Superb set up and also the Lynedoch up there too, so tempted and impressed by how the green staff look after the course I'm looking at membership.

Par 72 of the yellows, 71 for the Ladies and a 73 of the Whites. From 5045 to 6120 yards.

Unless you are an elite player, don't waste your time and money!

Unless you are an elite player looking for a challenge, then don't bother! This course has been deliberately setup by the management to be as difficult as possibe, despite the fact that they only host one pro event every year. As a member, I won't be back next season. If you have more money than sense, and like a deranged masochist you love losing balls constantly in the ridiculously long so-called short rough, then go for it; if you have a brain, then avoid it like the plague! The fairways are practically non existent in many areas, so unless you can get every drive perfect, you'll be looking for balls all day.
Oh, and if you want mud up to your shins for 1/2 of the season, or to slip around like a penguin and potentially break your neck half the time, go for it! It's the biggest waste of money I've spent on golf. I'm literally gutted that I joined, and I really wish I'd just paid for Lyndoch instead, which could potentially be 100 times better than Murrayshall, but the short sightedness of the management put all of their efforts in to Murrayshall. But then Lyndoch is hardly ever open off season because of flooding and neglect, and then in the summer they concentrate all of their efforts on the greens at Murrayshall, which makes them very pretty to look at, but with no fringe whatsoever, it makes them and absolute nightmare to play on to! The bunkers on Lyndoch are an embarrassment, and if you want to destroy you wedges playing in then, be my guest, otherwise, take a drop, or you could end up with a wrist injury after striking a big rock or ten! I'd go as far to say that I hate the Murrayshall course, and would happily never play it again! I would love to say that I could love the Lyndoch course, but it is so neglected it is utter sacrilege!

Although a beautiful course our experience was poor due to unmentioned maintenance of the greens (punched and lots of sand) and first cut. No problem when maintenance is necessary Just inform visitors about it. Then you have a choice. Now it was a lot of money for a poor experience. We complained but the general manager was not receptive for any feedback whatsoever and turned his back.

Interesting

Interesting holes with trees in the middle of fairways and good bunker positioning. Not the longest but you need to hit it in the right place off the tee or you get completely blocked off by trees. Course in good condition although the greens had just been cored and there was no mention of this in the pro shop when checking in. Not as hilly as most people seem to suggest.

Expected more

Walked into the golf shop and was met by a member of the groundstaff swearing, with no apology offered.
Was also told that Golf Now continue to take bookings even when they're full. Was going to have an additional 20 minute wait but decided to play the other course instead.
Emailed Murrayshall with my concerns and nobody's bothered getting back to me.
Not a great experience and expected better

Play in the summer

Stunning views, great course in summer but in winter is was sodden, even on a dry day. Greens were furry and slow. Some tees were like bogs so wait 3 months and play in May to September

Tee time bookings mean nothing here - avoid

We arrived for our 9.10am tee time to find 40+ seniors milling about the first tee.
They started teeing off at about 9am. The pro shop staff member advised we wouldn’t be able to play at 9.10 because of the seniors. He said we could start at the 12th and play, or play the Lyndoch course, the 2nd course, essentially a 9 hole course played 2x. No discount was offered.
As we had a tee time booked, and paid for, I feel the course should have honoured the time- even if it upset a few members.
Doubt we’ll be back.

Murrayshall

Overall it was an okay round. We were disappointed with the course conditions. Greens very soft. Tee boxes need cut and were very soft under foot. There is no fringe next to any green it goes from green to rough.

Bunkers. Absolutely atrocious. Put sand in them!!!

Staff - although very pleasant. Our First game and there is no course map. No tips or anything. Where was the pro?

Very disappointed. Understand we played after heavy rain this week but today we felt it was not worth the money we paid.

Will we be back - we will decide that later.

Decent course

Tricky course with a lot of tough tee shots. Greens immaculate however, the semi could have done with a cut.

This Course is a big hill !!

Course in great condition, too hilly for me, massive hills up and down, no level lies during the round. Would not play again without a defibrillator.

Different

Course is extremely bizarre in its set up particularly the front nine. Far too many holes with 90 degree doglegs and a ridiculous par five where the first shot off tea is
Limited to no more than a wedge shot. Course in great condition but a bit of a slog up and down hills. Greens were immaculate. Too tricked up for me
