Powfoot Golf Club
About
Powfoot Golf Club was founded in 1903 and designed by the legendary James Braid.
The first nine holes present a stiff test in the best links tradition and the final nine encompass a mixture of parkland with gorse and rough.
The ninth hole, known as "Crater," gets its name from the fact that a German bomb was dropped here during World War II. This provides the par-4 hole's defining feature - a great, deep hollow some 80 yards short of the green.
The highlight of the back nine could be No. 11, which has everything that the golf course is famed for. Your tee shot has got to be straight, which is no easy job when that wind is blowing. Once over the incline, you will find the green nestling up to your right, surrounded by shrubs, plus a bunker on either side of the green.
The links part of the course follows the shoreline of the Solway Firth and presents some breathtaking views of the North Lakes mountains and the hills adjacent to Dumfries.

Magical
I hadn't played Powfoot since I was a child and it had always stuck in mind how beautiful it was back then. Well my return visit did not disappoint, stunning links course in very good condition and a bargain for £20 from Golf Now. A nice welcome from the gentleman in the shop.
Cracking greens
The course was in great condition, especially the greens . Definitely try & play here again for that price.
Wow great course and for 20 snid 1 greens are brilliant excellent scenic and fair course loved it
Stunning views and a great layout
Really nice golf course. One of the best links course I have played other that the big names . I arrived early no problem in get out before my tee time . Only bad thing I get stuck behind a comp after 13 holes but it’s a weekend so expect. And it was a 2 ball Texas scramble. So they had every pin 2 yards on the eage of greens . But lovely course and place .
Excellent
Had a really good day. Booked the wrong day by mistake but they were very accommodating and rearranged.Great course.
A Real Gem
The course is great and a good test but fair it makes you think off the tee and the greens were fantastic considering its November it rained heavily overnight before we played and the course was pristine and lovely we will be going back soon great views of solway firth and friendly staff thanks
Powfoot Golf Club
Excellent experience, would recommend this course to anyone, every single element was top class
Great first visit to Powfoot gc.
Played as a four ball on our way back from Carnoustie.
Very good links course, quite challenging especially into the wind, the course was in very good condition, the greens were good but been hollow tined, not sure why with all this very dry weather we have been having recently, some very tricky putts on a few very undulating greens.
All the staff from the Lady in the pro`s shop to the bar staff and the few members we spoke to were very friendly.
Would highly recommend playing Powfoot golf club, you will not be disappointed if you like links golf.
Wonderful
Friendly welcome by all staff
Beautiful course in spectacular condition with consistent greens and nice variety of holes in directions and length , so of the earlier holes are tight but very enjoyable
Easily accessible from main roads and we will visit again very soon
Fantastic
Booked using the American golf free round voucher so it cost me and a friend £8 each but I would happily have paid full price. Course was in fantastic condition, greens were lightning quick. Arrived early and had a quick drink in the clubhouse looking over the first tee before teeing off early. Staff were friendly and welcoming. At some points it seemed like we had the course to ourselves. Lovely views right by the coast. Will certainly be back
Excellent would return hopefully in the near future.
Excellent course could imagine it would be difficult when the wind blows not a lot of deep rough unless you strayed into the prickly stuff.
Test for driving straight
Smashing course we really enjoyed our day will definitely come back to play again The greens are very impressive and a good test of skill
Lovely golf course in superb condition.
We really enjoyed our round. Very fair course in great condition. Good, very reasonably priced food. Can't wait to return.
