Dunskey Course at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club
About
Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club offers an undulating links-type layout, which is a challenge to all levels of golfers, especially when the fierce wind blows from across the Irish Sea. It is a mixture of rolling moorland and seaside heath.
The 11th hole, 138 yards from the forward tee, can be especially challenging, depending on wind direction, requiring anything from a 9-iron to a driver.
The 285-yard 13th hole, justly remembered as the signature hole, is known for its breathtaking view across the sea to Ireland. From the tee, which overlooks the North Channel, one can see the Irish coast, Mull of Kintyre and, to the south, the Isle of Man. It is all-downhill, and the backdrop is Sandeel Bay and the rocky coastline.
One of Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club's well-kept secrets is the excellent nine-hole, Par-3 Dinvin Course, which takes about an hour to play. It is ideal for the golfer looking for a quick round or the beginner who isn't quite ready for 18 holes.
The Club opened in 1903. The par-3 course was added in 1912.

Interesting course
I enjoyed my round despite course being very wet in places Some difficult holes and a picturesque par
4 on back nine with the sea and rocks on the left. Rough I found punishing though it's not long. Pro shop very friendly and were happy to give me a deal on items bought. I will be back
Excellent winter golf
The course was in good condition for the winter. The wind made it challenging and a lot of blind shots. Sight markers were a great help as was the golf pros tips on the website for each hole. The only negative was the lack of signage made it tricky navigate as there were no tee box numbers on the main tees or the winter tees. We went off course a couple of times trying to figure out where was next and because it was quiet there was no-one to follow. I would play it again and imagine it would be very tricky in the summer when the rough grows up.
Excellent value
The fairways were amazingly good for the middle of winter. The wind added to the interest making some holes pretty hard! There are no 150 yard markers on the course so good to have a watch for your yardages. Excellent value for winter rates.
Great condition
Course is in great condition, some wonderful holes with great views. What i didn't like is so many blind holes. Thats just a personal thing
Lovely views across to Ireland
Lovely day at Portpatrick and a nice round of golf on a challenging course. Bit disappointing that the greens were being treated on the day we were playing. Fairways were in excellent condition - lovely for fairway woods (required on the long holes). Rattled round in just over 3 hours. 14th was my favourite hole - gorgeous.
Couldn’t fault the whole experience of playing Dunskey. Great value for money and excellent hospitality. Will definitely recommend and return to play.
Great views and well looked after course
Always enjoy playing this course. This time the course was very busy and with a number of blind tee shots I found myself walking half way up a number of fairways to check the game in front was out of my distance. Play it on a quiet day and this is not a problem, however two groups in front may have not known about the 3 minute rule for a lost ball, which caused problems with the group in front of me. Two apologies later I resolved to wait more than 5 minutes on most tee’s. Like I say - play on a quiet sunny day and it’s a great golf day out due to the stunning views and 13th hole.
Must course in Galloway
We played several courses in Dumfries//Galloway, Portpatrick was our favorite, in terms of layout, condition and scenery. Since there are a couple of hidden holes we would have loved to play it more then ine time.
Great course
Played here a few times now and still enjoying it.greens are fantastic for may and rest of the course in great condition.lucky we had lovely sunny day as we have had sea fret problems in the past.club house food and drinks reasonably priced and good and everyone very friendly look forward to returning in August.
Superb
2nd time playing here and what a course . Greens a bit soft but considering the amount of rain we've had I'm surprised it was even open. Course is in great conditionnfor early January will most definatly be back.
A Gem
In fantastic condition. Testing but fair. We were a mixed ability group yet they course was fair to both big hitters and the more modest drivers of the ball. Views out to Sea.
A great day.
Excellent course, stunning views
Course in brilliant condition. Very good pace of play. Played a few holes on the Dinvin course as a warm up which was really good. Absolutely stunning scenery. Lived the view from the 13th tee in particular. Would highly recommend.
October half term holiday round at Portpatrick
What a little gem with awesome views too, thank you Portpatrick golf club great condition for the time of year and recent weather.
Absolute hidden gem - stunning
I have played this course a few times and simply love it. On a summers day it’s simply stunning with the views of the Irish Sea and the rugged landscapes.
The greens are superb and well kept, the course is challenging and unforgiving, however it as one of my top ten courses in Scotland.
We are always made to feel very welcome and the shop is well stocked and caters for all.
They have a lovely clubhouse and bar area where you are always made to feel welcome after a round. The food is nice and well priced.
We get buggies so we can play two rounds on the same day as quite hilly and long.
Honestly if you have not played this course, get it on your bucket list…
Was raining
Was raining on and off. Some steady wind but no bad.
Pro in shop didn't relate to me before or after round.
I suspect they don't like "Golfnow Hot Deals" make you feel second vlass and not very welcome. See Stranraer too.
Course is a cliff-top style. Nice rolling fairways. Many blind.
Rough is this so little risk losing a ball.
Great course
The course is well maintained, stunning location. Definitely will be back
Highly Enjoyable
Great course, really friendly and helpful club pro who made us feel welcome.
The course was great fun although it’s very exposed to the elements, so bring some extra layers.
Very traditional Scottish course, lots of hills and blind approach shots. It’s not the best or most spectacular course I’ve ever played but definitely worth playing if you are visiting the area.
Von Bahn zu Bahn besser
Die ersten Bahnen eng zueinander, viele "fore". Ab #12 sehr schön
