The Cowden at Muckhart Golf Club
About
The Cowden's nine holes at Muckhart Golf Club are the original nine where golf has been played for nearly 100 years at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Virtually no changes have been made to the layout during this time.
Muckhart Golf Club has 27 holes comprising three courses of 18 holes on a rotating basis. The Cowden Course measures 3,251 yards from the medal tees, and par is 36 for the nine holes.
Cowden's signature holes are the fifth and ninth. No. 5 is a challenging par 4 crossing two valleys, with the green backed by the Ochil hills. No. 9 is normally the last hole in an 18-hole round and is considered one of the finest finishing holes in Scottish golf. The drive has to be steered between a stream and a water hazard, and only the very longest hitters will consider taking on the burn in front of the green with their second shot.

Definitely worth a visit!
I'd already played the course with my partner in a Mixed Greensomes competition and we were both keen to play the course again. We enjoyed our return visit very much. The course is pretty challenging but a bit easier off the yellow tees!
We didn't use the off course facilities but we found everyone very friendly.
The best value course I’ve ever played.
This course is an absolute gem. Practically every other course in Scotland was closed due to the recent rain but Muckhart was in great condition. Rolling fairways, raised tees and greens, wide fairways it’s just a joy to play and the views are spectacular. It’s a more manageable and vastly more affordable Gleneagles type course. Easy to get to and sitting at the foot of the spectacular Ochills it will definitely be revisited many times. No doubt, the best value golf course I have ever played. Thank you.
Amazing friendly pro!!!
A warm welcoming by the pro!!!!
Great Course and Club
It's been a while since I played Muckhart and had always enjoyed playing there in the past. What great condition the courses are in, couldn't fault it at all. Staff were really friendly and helpful, particularly Steve in the Pro shop. Thanks to all concerned for making our visit a memorable one.

You have the choice of playing any of the 3 9hole courses we played 2 of them and they were excellent, greens were perfect and the views were stunning, the gentleman in the pro shop was really helpful.
Muckhart Golf Course
Haven’t played Muckhart since before Covid. I was pleased to see that it is still a well manicured and scenic setting to play golf. Pro was very welcoming and most helpful. Only slight negative was the greens although OK to putt on, they we’re not at their best. Thoroughly enjoyed our round of golf and the welcome we received. I can highly recommend this course…

Excellent course and facilities.
For £10 you can't go wrong. Played at 6pm so the course was very quiet- good for getting some practice in. Was pleasantly surprised the Pro Shop was open- the Pro was extremely friendly and helpful. The course played well, grass was a tad long and greens slower than I'm used to but you can't really complain for £10. I will definitely be back.
Great course
Great little course in a lovely setting with views of the Ochil Hills from just about every hole.
Tale of two 9's
First round of the year and, whilst sunny, it was near zero with a F5 northerly wind. Our 3 ball was held up a little by a 2 ball, but they disappeared after 9. First 9, greens were in a terrible state - anything within a club length of the hole was a gimmee. I take it that will be addressed as the second nine greens were very good. Lot of fresh sand going into bunkers, so obviously maintaining the course is ongoing.
Reception was pleasant as ever :welcome, check if we'd played before, 'here's your cards' and 'go when your ready.'
A lot of courses round here, I get nothing more than a grunt.
I like this bourse as there's a good variation of holes and there's three combinations
