The Cowden at Muckhart Golf Club
About
The Cowden's nine holes at Muckhart Golf Club are the original nine where golf has been played for nearly 100 years at the foot of the Ochil Hills. Virtually no changes have been made to the layout during this time.
Muckhart Golf Club has 27 holes comprising three courses of 18 holes on a rotating basis. The Cowden Course measures 3,251 yards from the medal tees, and par is 36 for the nine holes.
Cowden's signature holes are the fifth and ninth. No. 5 is a challenging par 4 crossing two valleys, with the green backed by the Ochil hills. No. 9 is normally the last hole in an 18-hole round and is considered one of the finest finishing holes in Scottish golf. The drive has to be steered between a stream and a water hazard, and only the very longest hitters will consider taking on the burn in front of the green with their second shot.

Hidden gem of a course.
Brilliant hidden gem of a course, with 3 9 hole course which are changed round to make 18 holes. The course was in amazing condition for the time of year. On arrival we were greeted with a smiling face and really helpful pro in the shop. Will definitely be back to play again it was a joy to play.
Excellent
First time playing and I have to say it was excellent would certainly recommend
Winter round
Played from winter tees and 4 winter greens but still really enjoyed it great layout definitely back in the summer when fully open
Muckhart Golf Course
First time playing this course and won’t be my last. Upon arrival I went to pro shop where the pro was nothing short off charming, looked really pleased too welcome me and gave me the choice off three courses to play to make it enjoyable and as I was a single golfer, enjoy a good paced game. I went on the Cowden for the first nine , which starts with a long par 3 , which I parred, but it’s a test and is well designed course with great views. The course is well maintained and it was all summer greens , which for the time off year were in reasonable condition. Onto the second nine and I was put on the Arndean course, which was opened in 1998 , this course is much more driver friendly and is easier to score on than the first nine. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and will definitely recommend and can’t wait to play again with some Golf mates
The course was in excellent condition considering the poor weather in the days leading up to our round. It was challenging and enjoyable.
Would like to return in the summer as I’d imagine it could be quite scenic.
Sunday golf
Warm welcome from pro in shop, who made us feel welcome, told us about the course, and answered some questions.
Course in good condition for time of year. Full greens and normal tees. Nice variety of holes and not overly long.
Only gripe was poor etiquette of 3 ball in front. As a 2 ball we waited in every tee shot and approach shot on the back nine. Not great in cold windy conditions.
Muckhart GC
Warmest welcome from the pro shop, advised of course layout and route to follow.
Good fairways, tight greens which were well maintained and playable despite winter conditions. Would recommend.
Muckhart Golf
Played Muckhart today on a wet Nov day. Course was in great condition. Last time I played here was over 30 years ago. Lovely to be back and golf pro Scott was a gentleman. Will be back shortly!
Very wet day, greens cored and bare in places but still enjoyed our day
Beautiful Course
Very welcoming and the course was of of the best I’ve played hope I get chance to go back up.
Great Course
Made to feel very welcome and the course was very well looked after just a shame the weather didn’t permit us to play the 3rd course next time we’re up this way will definitely be playing it again.
Worth a visit
This was our second time visiting on this occasion the greens had just been cored however this was the only complaint on the day as the course was in excellent condition.I would certainly recommend this course it has an excellent mix of challenging holes for all types of handicaps. The pro shop was well stocked moreover the staff and pro where very hospitable and made us feel at ease and very welcome 10/10 all round and look forward to returning
