Fairmont St. Andrews - The Torrance Course
About
Perched atop the cliffs that are situated above St. Andrews Bay, Fairmont St. Andrews offers two stunning traditional links golf courses, the Torrance and the Kittocks. In a region famous for being the home of golf, both courses manage to hold their own against the area's other links courses. Playing the Torrance Course, you would never believe that it was once flat farmland. The designer, Sam Torrance, transformed the course into a challenging links layout that looks as though it has been there forever. The classic Scottish bunkers that are strategically placed throughout provide a formidable test. Be careful from the 14th green to the final hole or you might find yourself tumbling down the rocky cliffs. This dramatic final stretch of holes is especially scenic and challenging with greens that play right along the edge of the water.

Beautiful scenic golf cours
Great golf course while visiting St. Andrews. Used the golfboards which were a lot of fun. Some amazing holes which rival Pebble Beach in their beauty.
Very poor
I played the kittock course last september soaking . Played the torrace today soaking drainage major problem . Would not play any of them again in a hurry. Sorry big letdown

Great course and good condition for winter! Pro shop and staff also first rate. One slight issue, the water in ball cleaners around the course absolutely stank of onions!!
Fantastic course
One of best courses I’ve played. Great condition and greens were like carpet. Stunning!!
Great Deal, Great Course
Played this course on a family trip to Scotland and ended up getting a great deal on the tee time through GolfNow. I was able to rent top-of-the-line clubs easily from the pro shop for a good price too. The course was straightforward, but very long and the rough had grown out quite a bit to make it a pretty challenging course. Overall, I highly recommend, and wish anyone else luck on this beautiful course in the birthplace of golf.
The Torrance Course
The greens were fantastic to put on with a real championship feel to them. Overall, the course was great to play on.
Top 20 course
This was my 193rd golf course worldwide and have to put it in my top 20. In excellent condition for early May and has amazing views of the sea and St Andrews. Thoroughly enjoyed my day, despite not playing at my best. Beautiful views from clubhouse.
An American course dropped into Scotland
This course proved to have a great layout. The greens were tough due to type of grass and our timing. I imagine the greens would be perfect in a month. It has rich lush grass which reminded all of us of a USA course. Very different from the Castle course and the old course. We played it cause carts were readily available. We had two people with medical issues that just couldn’t walk three rounds in a row.
Ace!
Hole in one on the 8th with not a soul around made the round! Always quiet on a Monday with only a couple of 3 balls around. The Torrance is a superb golf course with great flow and some exceptional holes especially the Par 3’s (17th is one of the best around). Big thanks to the 3 ball I caught up with to gush out the fact I’d Aced the 8th, one of them gave me a Curly Wurly out of her bag as reward. Class!
Great day and cheap celebration in the clubhouse (the benefit of achieving a solo hole in one ♠️ 😊
Brilliant day out
For the time of year the course was in excellent condition. Fast greens and spotless fairways. Our group was very impressed and it exceeded all expectations. Other than the clubhouse being closed for food and drink (We assumed it was closed because the time of year) we could not fault anything during the day. Thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Worst course I’ve played in St Andrews
Very very wet on foot very boggy I’ve seen better parklands courses in better conditions at this time off year the best thing I could say about the course was that the tees were dry n the greens wer also dry but didn’t run anywhere near I would have exspected even tho winter golf also the holes looked like they hadn’t been changed for atleast 5/7 days which I found very frustrating
Tee time cancellation due to frost
Was phoned in the morning to say the course was closed due to frost!
Pro was very apologetic and courteous!
Called GolfNow in Belfast to inform. Got my refund promptly!
Thanks Tony
Quality course at reasonable price
Enjoyable golf with a variety of playing challenges. Some delightful views of the town and coast on the back nine. Course in excellent condition, greens surprisingly fast. Warm-up green and shortgame area as well as range are excellent and handy to first tee. Playing by myself I caught up with a fourball who kindly waved me through, allowing me to go round in about 3 hrs, even with several ball searches. Though I had my GPS watch, a course guide would have helped me pick better lines as several times I could not be sure of safe vs risky lines. Price was excellent value on its own, without considering extras such as warm-up balls included.
Very enjoyable experience
The welcome was friendly and it was great to be able to warm up beforehand in the chipping area and driving range which was near the first tee box. Altogether, the course was challenging but fair and the greens and fairways were in immaculate condition. Views are spectacular too.
