Girvan Golf Course is one of eight fine courses owned and managed by South Ayrshire Council. Although a municipal course it provides the only golf in Girvan and there is a thriving independent local club with the members having facilities within the municipal clubhouse.
The course, lying on the northern outskirts of the town, is unusual in that it is divided into two distinct parts. The opening eight holes are pure links, immediately adjacent the coastline, and the second ten holes are parkland. This latter part has the added problem of the river, from which the town takes its name, winding through the land. Care should be taken on the ninth tee, as this hole is named after the gentleman who stepped back to admire a good drive only to take an unscheduled dip in the river.

Links and parkland-great combination
Sunny dry day , outstanding scenery on first 8 holes, fairways and greens in good condition, pace of play was just right, no rushing or waiting.
I had not played Girvan in over 10 years. Was great to return and play again today. Proper links weather. Scenery fabulous. Staff very friendly and helpful. Cant wait to play again.
The course was in very good condition. The only issue we had was we were behind the Club Competition which led to a very slow round, requiring us to miss two holes, no other issues. We will play on a Saturday morning on the next occasion.
great place to play for a quick round
Perfect weather - course played hard and fast. Got round very quick.
Front 8 full links, bruising in the wind, which is used to perfection to lengthen the par 4s and allow some pretty hefty par 3s going the other way. The last 10 holes are pretty much a big field someone’s taken a lawnmower to. Couple of uses of elevation to keep it interesting & again the winds been used properly. Good condition all round however, & the greens were absolutely uniform, even with recent dressing. No problem going back at these prices. Facilities are limited but course is good value.
GAME OF 2 HALVES FOR VIEWS
On arrival the signs were a bit confusing, with the actual Golf Club being away up top of the hill & only the Starter box beside the tee. The views from the first 8 holes were stunning, over to Ailsa Craig & Arran. we found the course was in good condition. Game of 2 halves as they say , 2nd half was completely different . Last few holes were very challenging for your average weekend golfer & in my opinion a bit unfair for ladies. Overall experience, was a good day out & would recommend to others.
Interesting and challenging course. It was very windy on the day I played which made playing well almost impossible. However the course itself is interesting, the first 8 holes are true links golf right next to the sea, the other 10 are across the road and have a part links, part parkland feel. Course conditioning was very good.
