Irvine Bogside

Played the course yesterday . It was fast and fiery on a lovely day with a light breeze.
The greens were like a green carpet , they were very nice to putt on . We arrived early to watch the Wales game on tv before we played and had a spot of lunch in the bar . The food was good and reasonably priced and the staff and members were very friendly . It’s a great course but a tough test , but very enjoyable on a nice day . I will definitely play here again it was very enjoyable .

Great course

Superbly presented course with fantastic greens. Playing on Friday afternoon made for a slow round. A few too many blind holes for my first time playing here. I'm sure if it was my home course I'd learn to love is quirkiness. Will definitely return.

Very Impressed

It said it was links and although it was not right next to the sea it WAS. The welcome in the starters presumably by the Pro was one of the best I have come across - very welcoming as were the members we spoke to. Our first round here, albeit a 2 ball was well under 3.5 hours despite me being in 9-10 bunkers - a record for me. Great value for money.

Quirky and Enjoyable

A fantastic welcome by the pro on arrival, headed out with 3 other visitors and instantly took a shine to this course. Placement is key off the tee and greens are interesting and true throughout the course. I would highly recommend this course to others and look forward to playing it again now I have a better understanding of the blind holes. A really good experience.

My First Ever Negative Review

I played Irvine Golf Club during the summer and know how good it is.

Bearing in mind that we have had one of the warmest and driest summers in the last ten years followed by a so far mild autumn with above average temperatures, no frosts and average rain fall i was bewildered, near disgusted, to turn up for a game at this links course today (4 November) and be told that winter rules were in place (from 1st November every year).

The sun was shining with a mild breeze and the course was dry underfoot. Why on earth did i have to tee off from uneven winter mats which were placed well forward of the ladies tees then move my ball from the fairways into the first cut of ruff. The bunkers were in play and the greens were running lovely.

Why has it become an automated process in Scotland, especially at links courses to place a course under winter rules on a specified date, surely these decisions should be made based on the weather.

Granted, i am a visitor at this course but given that i know how much the annual fees are, i would be livid if i joined Irvine Golf Club only to find that this policy was in place and it curtailed my golfing this early in the year.

I don't believe that the condition of golf courses is dramatically improved by these policies as they didn't really exist in the 80's and 90's. Courses are so much better now because of the staff training, workmanship and the modern equipment used to maintain them.

Great links golf

Played today 25/7/21 so it’s been insanely warm for ages now and course was very dry but so are most courses the now. Really enjoyed my round great links golf and a really good test. Some really great memorable holes will definitely be back. Pro shop staff were very welcoming and gave great info on the course with some tips, top man who works in the shop. Only slight negative was pace of play was very slow but it was a Sunday afternoon so need to expect a busy course at they times. Two ball in front let me pass but soon got held up again.

Really impressive

Never been to a golf club and made to feel so welcome.
Top marks for a guy called 'Jim' who introduced the club to us and had abit Craic. Well priced food and beer. A great golf club glad I have played there!

I found the course extremely challenging, but a great walk out! think I managed to find every bunker, And there are some mean 'ol' bunkers.
Scenery was great, greens were great too.

Can not recommend this place enough, Irvine touched a part of my golfing soul.

Great Layout

Great variation of holes which were both challenging and thought provoking. Requires good club selection to gain best approach shots which only adds to the enjoyment of the course. If you’ve not played here before then it’s an absolute must. Food and staff were also first class.

Hidden gem

Pro was very helpful gave us lots of information without prompting, putting green was was huge and very well maintained with nets close by.
Only one tee marker on tees seemed a bit odd.
Course condition was very good and it has my recommendation, my son and I had a great day in very windy conditions.
