Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 12/2018.

Carrick Knowe Golf Club is a par-70 mature parkland course in the heart of Edinburgh lined by aging trees and now featuring greens set to United States Golf Association specifications on the front nine - contrast those with the back nine's original ones. The golf course, with its returning nine holes, offers the perfect solution for golfers pressed for time.

Hot holes at the Carrick Knowe Golf Club include the par-4 373-yard second, which requires precision from the tee to a landing area that sits just before a pair of punishing bunkers and then a second shot to carry the bunkers and make the green.

Later, the Carrick Knowe Golf Club's short par-3 15th begs nerves of steel: You've got to nail the green to avoid losing your drive to the lateral bunkers on its left.

Decent enough

Course was in reasonable condition but the bunkers need a lot more sand - they're almost unplayable due to the level of stones etc in them - we had to pick up whenever we were unlucky enough to find one.

Not particularly challening as a lot of the holes feel very similar but decent enough for a practice round.

Good Value

Course is council run so don't expect immaculate greens... but they're okay, but fairly slow (I'm used to Links though)

Nice and flat

Nice and flat compared to many Edinburgh courses, good condition for a council course, no rakes in the bunkers but there were not too many footprints so maybe a greenkeeper is out there raking them. Greens very good. Well worth the £17 we paid for an 11am tee
