Kingsknowe Golf Club
About
West of Edinburgh, Kingsknowe Golf Club is easily reached by anywhere in Scotland thanks to the Edinburgh City Bypass. The 1902 Open champion Alec Herd originally designed the golf course. It was later redesigned by none other than James Braid. It is a parkland golf course laid above and within valleys of hills that roll gently - and on the ground where Oliver Cromwell gathered his army gathered to bombard Redhall Castle in 1650.
These hills define the Kingsknowe Golf Club's beautiful fairways, lined by cherry trees that require clever golfers to launch their balls to heavily guarded - and comparatively small - greens. The course features many difficult dogleg par-4s, and claims as its marquee hole the 460-yard par-4 16th.
After wrapping up on another of the Kingsknowe Golf Club's par-4s, the 297-yard Hame, retire to the restaurant and watch others battle the green.

Kingsknowe golf course
Excellent golf course with some quite unique holes with great greens.
Great way to spend a few hours
I'm new to golf but this was my 15th course this year. A few challenges but no real frustrations. Greens were really good, clubhouse great (toilets clean and well kept). Staff welcoming and friendly. Will definitely play again next time I'm in Edinburgh with my clubs.
Great wee course
I have played Kingsknowe many times over the years, but this was my first time back in a while. First off, the starter was very friendly and informative! The shop was very well stocked and it was a great day for it. The course itself was in great condition given the time of year and recent weather! The greens were a wee bit bobbly but looked fantastic. There's a mixture of holes - long, short, straight, bendy, hilly.. it has it all for a course around the 6000 yard mark. I'd definitely recommend playing Kingsknowe, particularly if you haven't done so before.
Nice layout shame the greens had been cored and sanded.
Enjoyed the course but putting was hard on the sanded and cored greens. No consistency so hard to judge bounce or roll on approach. Still a nice afternoon out regardless.
Round in less than 3 hours.
Kingsknowe
Superb day our. Great course and outstanding hospitality
Interesting Course
Good condition and good variety of holes. Some of the longer par 4s can prove tough if you end up in the wrong places, this is much the same across the various long par 3s. My main gripe was some of the par 4s were needlessly short and found myself using 4-6 iron fairly often from the tee. I suppose it's a little bit of a risk/reward course. Excellent conditions, plenty of doglegs and undulation to keep things interesting as well. Very cost effective round.
Due to weather most other courses were closed, so delighted to get a round. Course was wet and a bit muddy in places but still very playable and 16 out of 18 greens were normal greens and in very good condition. Will definitely play again. Excellent views
Great test of golf close to the city
Well worth a visit . Clubhouse facilities excellent and all friendly staff make for a great day out . Add a testing course in excellent conditions and you are on to a winner . Would highly recommend and so close to the city

Super day - staff super friendly - course in great condition. All worked out great.
This course is a great layout
Excellent course, first time I played it and was not disappointed. Great selection of holes and a testing course, greens and fairways in fantastic condition.
