Good course but no staff available
The course was good if a little short and in good condition but there was no staff in the pro shop or club house and we couldn't get a score card which meant we got lost a couple of times and had to keep getting our phones out to keep score
Wet and windy
Well name suits it’s a big hill with wind last 7 holes battered with rain shot 37 front 9 defo a course is amateur golfers can score well on
Brilliant course and brilliant value
Course was in superb condition for this time of year and considering the recent weather we’ve had.
Nostalgic return
Having been a member for 10 years from aged 10-20 it was a nostalgic return to play our home course with my brother. Having been away from the area for 30 years, we had no idea what to expect. Apart from a lot more mature trees than we could remember the course remained largely the same as it was 30 years ago. There’s a great practice area next to the first tee, which was well maintained and a proved useful to get a decent warm up prior to teeing off. Although not in pristine condition with largely slow greens the course was still a pleasure to play. Windyhill is far from easy and we got off light with the weather conditions. When the wind is blowing the difficulty level increases significantly. That being said, it’s still a stiff test with shot selection key, particularly on holes with multiple gradients with sloping fairways. It was well worth the visit and a course I’d highly recommend if you’re in the area or just haven’t played it before. The views across Glasgow add to the experience. Definitely one to add to your list.
Wonderful
Excellent course. Some very interesting and challenging holes. Great views with cliffs and rocky hills to help make it special. You need to hit your balls straight!
Great value for money
First time playing this course cracking course the weather today made it challenging can see why it's called windyhill but could imagine this course been brilliant on a nicer day some tough holes but also alot of forgiving holes too
Not a nice welcome
We booked on for a 2 ball at his course, never again the management where delighted to charge us another £10 as wee arrived 20 mins early to set up, the person in charge had no welcoming skills at all, he then proceeded to follow us out on to the first tee and watch us as if we where up to no good. Never again will I play or pay for this course, there’s far better courses all over Scotland compared to this
Course
Even with the rain the course underfoot held up really well and was in great condition. Our main issue was directions between holes as we finished the 4th then couldn't locate the 5th? For visitors it would be really useful if a map of some description could be handed out on check in at the shop just to aid this. Apart from this had a great round and very nice course
Windyhill
First time playing the course and really enjoyed it challenging throughout especially the long par 4’s. Excellent value for money and would definitely recommend and play again
Another Cracker!!
What a brilliant course and what a brilliant week we've had playing courses within a 25min drive that I never knew existed!! Thanks to the wonders of Golf Now we started the week in Rouken Glen, which we loved, but loads of leaves, so loads of balls found that we weren't looking for!! but quite a bit of trudging thru mud, although the course itself is in good nick, moresoe the pathways between holes. Then onto Fereneze, Wowoweewa!!! Beautiful day, incredible views, stunning course!! Best greens we have played on this year, and a lovely crowd, get there early tho, car park space is limited!! (Cheese&Pickle and Chicken Tikka Rolls recommended ) And then today at Windyhill, lovely locals/members, nice to have the use of driving nets and a practice putting green for a change!, terrifically challenging course in tip top condition, sandy greens but well kept...well done!!
Challenge for All
Well maintained course. A challenge for all levels but somehow not an enjoyable one.. no one there to greet us albeit during Covid in mid October. We just went on long before our tee off. Course is hilly and the greens were very sandy but the time of year explains this. If you are not reasonably fit this could be a slog.
We didnt aee this in its best light.
Dont know if we will go back to see it in a better light.
Windyhills
The fairways were in impeccable condition, the greens were being prepared for winter maintenance but this is a lovely course and the scenery added to an enjoyable day on the golf course. It is hilly and would be even more challenging in wet/windy conditions. Good Par 5's and deceptively tricky Par 3's.
Good course conditions but not the best layout
Warm welcome from the pro and very friendly members. Although it was a lovely sunny day the past week has been very wet. I was therefore very impressed that the greens were still quick and the mostly fairways in good condition. The course is hilly as the name suggests but the views are stunning.
The course layout means that there are a lot of fairways that cross over or are right next to each other which means stray shots from yourself or other golfers slow down play significantly. Also where the next tee box is is sometimes not logical and there is no map on the score card or clear signage. We ended up using an app to find where we should be going. At the end of the course there are a few short par fours with the fairways almost blind. These are great fun to play but really slowed the pace of play down further.
We weren’t in a rush and had a great round. If you don’t mind hills or taking your time this is a great course.
True test
First time playing windy hill was taken back by the course one word of warning it a true test done great driving hole
Great course
This course definitely lives up to its name it’s very hilly and rather windy.
Fantastic condition and every person we met was friendly and helpful.
The only thing is finding your way from tee to Tee was a bit hard they could put signs in to help first timers!
First time playing windyhill thought it was a great course tho ita tough course with it going up a hill but a great layout definitely be back soon
It's a pity the club pro had just gone out for a while, the office administrator was on a day's holiday and the bar had not yet opened when you arrived. I'm glad the course did not let you down. Hopefully, if you make a return visit, everyone will be in attendance.
