Clifton Highlands Golf Course
Clifton Highlands Golf Club, just north of Prescott, enjoys a scenic location overlooking the St. Croix River Valley. The club offers a championship 18-hole course as well as a par-3 course. Dr. Gordon Emerson, Wisconsin's most prolific course designer, designed the Championship Course. He considered it some of his best work. The golf course has enough diversity to appeal to both low and high handicappers. The layout is fairly tight with mature trees framing many of the holes. The undulating greens and fairways are meticulously maintained. A combination of water and sand comes into play, providing a fair amount of challenges without being too punishing. In addition to the 27 holes, Clifton Highlands G.C. also has a driving range and practice greens that are adjacent to the first tees of both golf courses.

Good course, good value, pace of play issues
Overall, one of the better courses and values. However, once again I found myself behind a group that was playing slow that wouldn't let people play through. It was actually a fivesome, and we spent 14 holes behind them. Their pace was okay for a five some, but that's not the point. And this isn't the first time, this has happened everytime I have played at Clifton. I don't know what the deal is. Most golfers in the area are very accommodating and let you play through almost immediately.
One of my favorites
It was near freezing when we arrived and there was a short frost delay, Ken in the clubhouse was very friendly and explained where we were in the queue. The course was in great shape, we did have some issues with leaves, but this time of year it can be expected, the greens were fast and holding. I love this place and can hardly wait until the next visit.
Fantastic New Management
Fantastic new management. Ken in the proshop goes out of his way to make you feel welcomed. Enjoy playing and got 5 star service with a golf outing. Course conditions were among the best of the 30+ courses I've played this year (including private clubs). Highly recommend
Awesome course- great time
The course is great, staff super friendly and we had an awesome time. I will be back again.
We played here once last year and were not impressed. Played this weekend, and boy has it changed! Course was in great shape, and the pace of play was fine, even though the parking lot was starting to get fiilled at 7:00am. The staff is very knowledgable, and the starter had us off at the exact time. Greens are rolling true as any I've seen, and fairways are in good shape. We will being going back for sure. Also, we are going to have to try the restaurant. It must be god food, becuase there was a steady steam of people coming in to eat on a Sunday morning...
Excellent Course, Great Value
Clifton Highlands Golf Club provides an outstanding golf experience throughout 18 holes with generously wide lush smooth fairways and well-conditioned fast, undulating greens. The course has four sets of tees ranging from 6,644 to 5,197 yards, accommodating golfers of varying abilities. Tree coverage is moderate on the parkland-style front nine and the first few holes on the back nine. Beginning with hole 14, the course starts to look more like a northern woodlands course, with heavy tree growth lining the fairways and some significant elevation changes. The rough is not very high, so balls that miss the fairway are easily found. Variety in the hole layouts makes the course especially interesting. There are right and left doglegs, uphill and downhill tee shots and approach shots, and short and long holes. From the middle men’s tees (white) the par 5 holes range from 457 to 539 yards and the par 4 holes vary from 302 to 407 yards. You’ll probably use every club in the bag during your round. As stated earlier, the greens are fairly quick, and most of them slope quite a bit from back to front, so you’ll definitely want to stay below the hole. Two members of our group managed to putt completely off the green on separate holes. One notable exception to the back to front sloping tendency is the turtle-back green on the par 4 5th hole. Approach shots hitting the right or left sides of this green are likely to bounce completely off. Best to disregard the pin position and just go for the center and hope your shot holds the green. The front nine ends with a short (457 yards from the white tees) par 5 that provides an opportunity for a birdie, or par at least, to finish the front in a positive frame of mind. Opening the back nine is another fairly short hole, a 307 yard par 4. However, the green is fronted by both a water hazard and a bunker that must be carried in order to have a chance at birdie. The finishing hole seems long on the scorecard at 539 yards from the white tees. But because the tee box is somewhat elevated, the distance is manageable for the average golfer. Your second shot will be somewhat blind, but aiming at the flagpole in the distance will get you to the dogleg, setting up your approach shot. Remember to try to stay below the pin, and you’ll have a chance to finish your round with a birdie. After the round, the Highlands Grill provides a very comfortable place to enjoy a cold beverage. Clifton Highlands is about a 45 minute drive from central locations in the Twin Cities, but it is well worth the drive.
We are a retired foursome. Some good some bad. We got behind a local FIVESOME that were very inconsiderate. We waited on the last 9 holes for every shot. We brought it up to the manager at the end and got the old oh was it slow? This is poor service. Even the beer cart stopped thes morons coming off the green while we were waiting to hit in the fairway. Poor choice
W had an outing last sunday at Clifton Highlands golf course. Mr. Ken and his staff were awesome to us. We had a great time and can't wait to do another tournament in the fall season
The Clifton Highlands course was in beautiful shape from tee to green.
A public course with a private feel
Nice layout in beautiful shape
A pleasure to play this magnificently manicured golf course .
Nice but little course etiquette would be nice.
Course was in great shape. Pretty straight forward last 5 holes are by far the best. BUT was disappointed in the fact at 9am they are mowing and weed trimming while you play. I mean putting and 2 weed eaters going at it 20 feet away. Next tee box I’m on the blue tee box next box up 10feet away guy on the lawn more just kept going. Wanted to top it and try to knock him off of it.
Great course, better staff. Rained out our back 9 and we got more than we bargained for as far as vouchers. Great course, great staff. I’ll definitely frequent this course.
The course was in great shape. The greens were in perfect condition and double rolled. They are the most challenging part of this course. The fairways are super easy to hit and not very challenging until 14-18. The only downfall are the amenities. They just don't match the course and need some work. They could also use a new fleet of carts. Otherwise a fun course.
Better than I remembered
Good course layout and mix of holes. Challenging greens. Seems tougher than its course rating and slope. Conditions were great. Better than most other courses in the area. Nice clubhouse and staff.
Great value, $22 with cart. The greens are always in great condition.
Very Nice course for all skill levels
Course in nice shape for such late spring. Bunkers were dry and raked, greens had no winter kill and fairways greening up evenly.
Pace of play was perfect with no waiting at tee box.
Back nine had more picturesque holes with #17 and #18 perfect for finishing holes.
Overall very nice golf experience.
