Clifton Highlands Golf Course
About
Clifton Highlands Golf Club, just north of Prescott, enjoys a scenic location overlooking the St. Croix River Valley. The club offers a championship 18-hole course as well as a par-3 course. Dr. Gordon Emerson, Wisconsin's most prolific course designer, designed the Championship Course. He considered it some of his best work. The golf course has enough diversity to appeal to both low and high handicappers. The layout is fairly tight with mature trees framing many of the holes. The undulating greens and fairways are meticulously maintained. A combination of water and sand comes into play, providing a fair amount of challenges without being too punishing. In addition to the 27 holes, Clifton Highlands G.C. also has a driving range and practice greens that are adjacent to the first tees of both golf courses.

Course superintendent needs to REDUCE penalizing pin placements.
This is my third round at Clifton Highlands and I can honestly say, I love playing the course!! It is extremely well maintained, and the greens are undulating and consistent in roll. The layout of the fairways is nice, many lightly tree-lined and just a beautiful walk.
Now...on to the part many I have talked to would agree with me on....the placement of the pins. So many of the pins are placed in positions that are more penalizing than fair. Pins are placed on the apex of humps that fall off on all sides, so getting the ball to the hole is one thing...getting it to stop near the hole is completely another. Miss a read? you could at some point end up off the green. Hole 7 today was placed directly on the apex of a mound in the lower right corner. Hit the putt to the hole but miss? It's going to be a long putt back as every putt runs away from the hole after passing it. This isn't the PGA tour...
Beautiful, challenging course. Great staff!
I have been back to Clifton Highlands 5 times this season. Challenging course, tough greens. Beautiful conditions and very quiet. I love this course and it's a great value. Staff is very nice in the pro shop and bar/grill area. Looking forward to going back.
Great place to play
Course is challenging and staff is above and beyond helpful and friendly. Will continue to come back
Great deal
The course was very interesting and I enjoyed the funky layout. Surprisingly tough greens, as I felt like I didn’t have a flat putt all day. Conditions were good and bad at times, but for the value I would recommend.
Clifton
Really nice course. Good layout, nice shape, all holes interesting. Some great views, nice elevation changes. Didn’t have a flat putt all day. Really tough greens
