Conditions were excellent: greens , fairways
A great way to spend 4 plus hours on this golf course. Challenging but fair and a true test of one's golfing abilities. Using every club in the bag throughout the 18 holes.
Great value at $75 - $100
Course is great. Lots of tees to choose from including a behemoth 7,700 set. Greens were in great shape and nobody in front of us, so we played in under 3.5 hours. Well worth the trip!
Scenic but challenging
This course was a very picturesque course. The conditions were immaculate from every aspect. The practice facility was great and the club house was very nice. Get there early to take advantage of the range and putting greens. I played with what I consider to be decent golfers and it took us all a while to get used to how fast the greens were.
We played on a very windy day but I would imagine that because the course is not too far from the ocean, its always pretty windy out there. For starters, make sure that you choose the right set of tees to play from. The course is difficult enough so don't try to play from the tips unless you are a single digit handicapper (We played from the Blue tees#. As I mentioned earlier, the green speeds were very fast and unlike most public courses in Jacksonville so try to practice as much as possible. I had #and witnessed# many 3-putts #and even 4-putts) because a simple 5 footer can turn into a 10 footer if you are putting downhill or down wind. Like other courses, having course knowledge would help a lot and I look forward to playing again because you would know where to miss certain shots. Being on the correct tier on the green is important as well and I think the greens were where most of the shots were givien up. The greens, fairways, bunkers and rough were all in top notch conditions.
The staff was very friendly, one of our playing partners lost a wedge on a hole and called the club house, they sent an employee to try to find it for him and he was able to locate it and bring it to us without making us stop our round to go look for the club.
We played for about $75 and it was a fair rate for what you are getting. I personally have a hard time spending $200/round which is what it normally costs but if you can get a Golfnow rate of $65-$75, it is well worth it. Everything was a little inflated including the beverage carts but I guess that is to be expected when you play a resort course. This was a long review but I beleive the the course deserves its due. We had a great time and will be back to try to improve our scores.
Huge greens & endless bunkers
Must play course if you are in the area. Tom Watson has designed a fantastic golf challenge. Better tune your short game up before playing.
I have lived in Jacksonville for 12 years and this by far was one of the top courses that I have ever played. GREAT JOB!!!!
The couse was in great shape, it was challenging. All of my guest were very impress with the treatment by staff and how beautiful the scenary was. Some hole locations tough and gave you a lot to think about. I plan to bring several more of my friends back to this course just to impress them. GREAT JOB to all. Keep up the good work.
10 STAR
TOP COURSE PERFECT GOLF CONDITIONS
A MUST PLAY GOLF COURSE
EYE-CANDY
Visually stunning. Avoiding all the hazards offers a reward on nearly every shot. Glad there was very little wind on day I played. Also found the staff very helpful & exceptionally friendly.
Air it out!
Interesting/ challenging course. Greens were in good shape. Large, not lightning fast today but reasonable pace. Plays long in the wind or otherwise without fast fairways.. I imagine the fairways cold be very fast under drier conditions and that would've been handy today. At $65 on golf now it was a good deal.
A must play...spectacular
Lots of eye-candy
Can be as much as you an handle, depending on the tees you pick
This should be on everyone's bucket list
Course is very well designed. First Tom Watson couse I've played.
Course is very challenging but fair. Course was in great condition especially this time of year. Recommend playing this course at least twice to understand the nuances especially around the greens. GPS system is great in recommending which side of the fairway to hit for the best angles. Up and down around the greens I feel is where the challenge lies. This course is really difficult when the winds are blowing even at 10 mph. If your game is good this will be a stiff test.
Staff was friendly and very professional and I recommend this course and it was a great value for the price and condition of the course. Can't wait to play it again.
Great course, especially @ some GolfNow prices
This is a beautiful and challenging course (bogey golfers like me will be around 100).The usual charge is over $100 (which is a fair price for a course of this caliber) but often you can get an even better deal on GolfNow. It's sister course is the Ocean Hammock course, which is also challenging and doesn't seem to have as many discounted rounds (probably more people prefer playing by the ocean and more amenities are open/available @ Ocean Hammock). I think there are more picturesque holes @ the Conservatory than @ OH. Lots of bunkers and some uneven lies in this links style course.
True links, fun to play
Outatanding links style with many bunkers especially on the back nine. Generous fairways but with hidden run off to the many bunkers. Greens very large but with many undulations and opportunities to hide pins in difficult locations. Firm fairways allowed you to make up for a fairly long course. Course conditions are excellent. Very scenic.
What a joy!
Tom Watson has created a real gem at The Conservatory. Each hole is uniquely contoured with lots of bunkers and rolling fairways but definitely fair to the golfer. And the fast, undulating greens are truly some of the most challenging I have played in Florida. I would strongly recommend playing course to any golfer, but particularly to long hitters. At 7,770 yards from the tips this baby will give them all the challenge they want!
Great Course a must play.
Great course. Greens speed 10. 12/15/2012
Would have liked to see the greens a little faster.
About as good as it gets for value, beauty and upscale amenities.
Course is beautiful with beautiful bunkering, huge waste areas and sloping greens. Never waited on a shot. Clubhouse is spectacular and on course facilities are top notch. A hidden gem left isolated when the housing crisis hit. Folks working there were wonderfully friendly. Everything anyone could want in a course. Personally I think it is superior to the Watson Course at Reunion in Orlando but basically having a course to yourself on a Thursday is a special thrill and well worth the few extra dollars. Green fees are a bargain if you want to play something special!
