Troon Links - Lochgreen
About
After or before chowing down on the clubhouse's "Scottish Fayre," take on Troon Links Lochgreen Course.
The Lochgreen Course at Troon Links is widely regarded as the best of the municipal golf courses in Troon, though all offer a great round of golf at prices hard to beat in Scotland.
Troon Links Lochgreen Course is facility's largest, a par-74 that parallels in parts Royal Troon Golf Club and has served as a qualifier for the Open. Jack Nicklaus, for one example, once shot an 82 on the golf course and needed to follow it up with a 68 to make the cut by one shot.

Lochgreen - Painfully Slow Pace of Play
2 hours 30 mins to play 8 holes before we chucked it, held up by a 5 ball, 3 games in front (2 buggies + 1 walking but all playing.) course was backing up all around and you are too far away from the clubhouse.
Course condition- Greens were nice but fairways were extremely poor, looked like maintenance at the wrong time and little to no growth.
Good layout but not enjoyable unless you are happy with a 6 hour round on a Saturday afternoon.
Great day
Teeing off at 10.20 it was a blustery day and conditions were tough on the long first hole. The 3 courses at Troon were all busy and everyone was feeling the effects of the wind. The course was in great nick and the greens were immaculate and true running. I really enjoy playing Lochgreen and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good challenge on the golf course. I played really well in the consolations hitting 82 with a 7 and 2 6s on my card. Highly recommend playing Lochgreen I’ll be back next week for sure
Really enjoyed the round.
Really enjoyed the round although we were behind a rather slow 3-ball. They allowed the 2-ball ahead of us play on the 10th tee but we followed them on the rest of the round. We were in no hurry so didn’t affect our enjoyment.
Course was in good condition but greens could have been doing with a cut.
On the down side the cafè and bar closes at 4pm which makes no sense when there are 3 golf courses and dozens of golfers coming off and would spend money in there.
Condition a bit rough
Having played in the past , I was disappointed with the condition of the course - from my memory the course was always kept in good condition . I took my son and told him how good it was but we were really disappointed .
A Troon Classic.
I’ve played Darnley and Fullerton before when I was a lot younger and thoroughly enjoyed them. This was a more serious course with plenty of fairway to play with. God only knows how I avoided all the punishing bunkers. I’ve recently bought a holiday home in the area and will enjoy this entertaining and well kept trio up my sleeve for a great base of golf with something for everyone.
Great Value
Playing off the back tees, really long course and great layout off the tee. Can hit driver and long irons on a lot of holes so a good test rather than all wedges. Greens weren’t the best but can’t expect them to be for the price. Would definitely recommend playing.
Troon Lochgreen A braw day oot!
Not in best condition, for obvious reasons, but still very playable, and still one of the best courses around.. Reasonably priced with the Hot Deal,, indeed great value for money, though prices in season have escalated to a level which has put some of us off in recent years. More Hot Deal access would help. Also, catering and general facilities have always been great, but very busy on the day we visited and staff were run off their feet. Scope to employ at least one more person?
Pretty decent course
Played as a visiting 3 ball. Booked through Golf Now for a hot deal rate of £19pp. Wouldn't pay the summer rates. Course in reasonable condition considering the time of year and previous weather conditions. The course is badly let down by poor signage and rabbit holes over all the fairways... Take care!!. The staff encountered were friendly enough but failed to mention the hole that had a horrendous temporary green making the hole very short and the lack of signage to the 18th tee.
Course was in great condition. Greens were amazing. Got held up by a 3 ball that spent too much time talking than playing. Apart from that was one of the best games of golf i have had in a while.
