Troon Links - Darley
About
The first Troon Municipal Darley Golf Course dates from about 1910, though the current one, with its original bogey par of 71 opened June 9, 1951.
Troon Links - Darley plays shorter than Lochgreen, meaning a tight round of golf with heather and gorse clogging the edges of several fairways, and an easy enough start makes the tests between the fifth and 15th holes all the more frustrating.
Shoot straight on Troon Links - Darley, as, in addition to the heather and gorse, there's plenty of whin.

THE BEST VALUE FOR MONEY LINKS ON THE WEST COURSE
if you love real links where the fairways are burnt an very bouncy and the only green on the course are the teeboxs and the actual greens then get yourself to this smashing course its real links golf for a fraction of the price of all the courses round about this area . It was once the hardest municipal golf course in europe to play to your handicap on and for me is a lot more of a challenge than lochgreen . Had read a few reviews saying fairways were in a bit of a state this is just how it should be in the height of summer the greens were an absolute dream to putt on and the new routing changes really work and balance the course out better i feel so if your able to get a time get yourself down to troon an play the darley course
Challenging but fair
Played the course for the second time recently. I enjoyed it more this time as I was more familiar with the course. Challenging but more shorter holes than Lochgreen, many greens reachable with driver and iron. Par 3s are interesting and fun to play.
Course has excellent layout
We played Darley on Sunday 31 July, it was a nice day and we were looking forward to it. The layout is really good and the greens were in great condition but the fairways are awful! Rabbit holes everywhere! In this course u can be punished for hitting the fairways off the tee!! Loads of bunkers don’t have any rakes so as a result they are a mess!! I know it’s council owned but we played Irvine Ravenspark and Routenburn in Largs recently ( both council owned) and they both were in much better shape all round
Two ball
Again scored with playing down troon on a scorcher of a day . Course was good condition . Could be better signage for finding the next tee on a few holes . Apart from that had a good round .
Tougher challenge than Lochgreen
Although shorter than Lochgreen, this course is more challenging. Narrower fairways, tough carries to green and some some fairways in not-so -good condition. Still a good links course with holes 5 to 8 the most challenging. Looking forward to playing it again soon.
Darley
Fairways in very poor condition. Take plenty of balls. Greens superb.
Greens Good
Layout was fine but some holes between 3 and 16 were in need of some TLC, greens were fine.
Change of course
Changed course since I played last year. Less shrubs and course layout means quicker pace of play.
Very tough course. Bad bounce on even the best drives can land you in bother. Links conditions take a hole or 2 to get into again.
Greens look great and are well watered to slow the pace after solid fairways.
Layout change
The layout of the course had changed from the last time i had played it. We were a little lost for a few of the holes and the gps didnt pick up the new layout
Darley
The course was in bad condition, I struggled to find a section of grass to play off of. The greens got slightly better the further around the course you got.
Staff were great.
Got held up quite a bit, took over 4 hours for a 2 ball which isn’t a great pace.
Superb days golf
Great course, brilliant value for money when booking on the GolfNow App.
Great course !
Great course with a variety of long par 3’s and challenging par 4 & 5’s. Great course for any skill level would recommend to anyone.
Great Greens
Played with a friend from North Carolina we enjoyed the new layout and the course is in great condition especially the greens, so early in the season !! The pro shop and the catering are top drawer. Will be back down again soon.
Course out of condition
Enjoyed the greens, good condition, fairways very poor. We played preferred lies to try and get a decent lie. Course needs worked on to get back to a decent standard..
An OK course
Played Darley for first time. A sunny day and no rain meant it was perfect for golf. However the course wasn’t in as good condition as I’d hoped for the money. Confusing where next hole is at some parts, fairways were poor, and greens varied a lot. Lacked interesting features on most holes compared to cheaper courses on GolfNow. Bunkers hard packed also. Wouldn’t recommend it, but neither would I say to anyone not to play it. Just not as good as I’d thought it would be.
Nice introduction to links
Roasting weather for end of march made fairways very fast but in gd condition. I played off 23 on the day and found the course tricky but not too challenging. Greens in gd nick and would recommend to play again.
Good value
Staff very friendly, course in good condition considering the time of year and weather conditions. Beware of the many non-golfers walking across the course, blissfully unaware of golfers playing golf!
