Fun laid back course
This was a fun fast paced (you can get 18 holes in fast) course. The back nine has some fun elevation changes and water.
September 10 2023
Friendly staff but a few minutes prior my T-Time they sent off a group of 4 and a group of 2 really should not have happened. It was the buddy system at work the person behind the counter knew these guys and said go ahead the T is open. The correct step would be to ask the single if he wanted to go first and not leave him to follow this mess. Yes I know as a single it will be slow but common courtesy is important it leaves a bad taste behind.
The course is in pretty good shape for late summer but the greens truly need help, un repaired divots, club and scrape marks all over all the greens. several of the flags were missing the scope spotting yardage markers.
The bunkers were sad tire tracks from the machine used to rake the bunkers getting into one of those was irritating.
Will I play again yes but not till next year if at that time the greens are not better it will be removed from my list along with the list of my golfing buddies. We have a group of 16-20 that play on a weekly basis rotating courses. This day I played solo due to the opening season of the Packers.
Amazing course, great carts
The cart attendants were the nicest people I've ever met. They did a superb job cleaning the cart. It was the cleanest cart I have ever ridden in. They were perfectly parked. Everyone had a smile on there face. During my round I couldn't wait to be done just so I could see those nice cart attendants one more time. I recommend this course to anyone that enjoys golf.
New layout complete
Played Lake Windsor recently for the first time in a year and a half. The renovation of the old "red" (front) nine is finally complete and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the work done. I was told that all 9 of the today's front nine greens have been rebuilt. Most of them are at or near the same locations, but they are more elevated to help with drainage--the front has historically had drainage problems as it is built on low land. The fairways were cut tight and were in very good shape. The greens are also cut tight and were fast even on a wet day. Some of the cart paths on the front and some cart parking areas are not yet paved, but will be soon. The new front nine design is very nice, retaining some good holes from the previous layout and upgrading some holes which were on the old "blue" nine at one time. The course is still close to I-90/94 which will get you a few honks from cars on at least one tee, but in fewer places then previously. The old "white" (back) nine is largely unchanged from the original course. They have 5 sets of tees with the white tees rated at 69.9 and a very challenging back set of "black" tees which rates 73.7.
At this point they are not doing much discounting, and seem to be focused on weddings and outings, which they are very good at. They also take good care of their members. If you haven't played here in a while it's worth trying, I was impressed with the condition of the course and it will only get better as the weather improves.
RENOVATIONS ARE FINISHED
I play Windsor every year and was delighted today during my pre-season round to find out that the renovations are finally finished. They only had white tees out today but the renovation appears to have added some distance and a few new greens. I'm excited to get out there during the summer when everything is in top shape
Amazing Greens
Awesome course layout! By FAR the best greens in the Madison area! I love this place!
Continuous Construction
The back is good, but the front nine is a disaster. It seems like they've been working on it for years. The front has no continuity and needs more work. There are a few holes that ruin the experience. Don't plan to walk because the distances from green to next tee can be very long. For example from number 6 green to 7 tee box is at least 400 yards.
Course under repair
Doing a lot of work, should have been notified. On the front 9 there were no yardage indicators , no way of knowing what direction the fairway went. 3 holes were makeshift.
Decent course
Great price and a nice course to play. Greens were pretty smooth and fast. Challenging yet easy enough to play.
Needs better service on the course
No beer cart or bartender staffed- nothing to drink
great pace of play
weather was cool, not many golfers. We played 18 in just under 3 hours. New improvements look like they will be nice.
Nice course
Have played Lake Windsor for many years. They are in the process of changing some holes. Makes it a little more challenging to walk as distance between some holes are pretty long.
Friendly staff and course is in great shape despite the renovations.
1st time, last time
The staff was amazing, the front nine not so much. The back nine is drastically better shape. For the price you can find better courses and challenges.
Green were great
Was a perfect day to play. Windsor has a great golf course. Course is very well maintained! A+
Great variety
Each hole has just the right amount of sufferance than the next
Pleasant course, good value
This is a nice course with very favorable prices. Conditions were only fair on the day I played, with lots of standing water and muddy patches, due to recent heavy rains. (This is a chronic problem for this relatively "low lying course," and should be considered when scheduling a round there after heavy rains.) However, conditions generally are good during normal weather patterns. The staff are friendly and accommodating.
Although the course might be relatively short for scratch golfers, it is moderately challenging and playable for golfers of "average" ability. The only exception is #10. The landing areas on that hole simply are too narrow and tightly bordered by water on one side and large trees on the other for the average player (< 250 yard drives). Long hitters can just out-drive the treed area, but average players might have to tee off with an iron and settle for a 3-shot trip to the green on this par-4 hole. (Or hit a driver anyway, and watch their ball disappear into the bordering swamp on one side or settle behind large trees on the other!) It would be nice if this hole could somehow be redesigned to make it a more playable par-4 hole for players of average ability.
In summary, I like the course and will play there regularly in the future. Maybe I will just keep my driver in my bag and drop a ball in the "target area" on #10!
Not so great!
I golfed with a friend here on a Saturday. I'm not a fan of it being right on the interstate. Everthing was super wet and seemed to be in ok shape. I will not go to this course again due to a few reasons. There were no water coolers or beverage person. Greens and fairways were not that great compared to the better courses in the area!
Nice course
Staff was very friendly!! Course was a little soggy in places but what course in the area isnt after the recent heavy rains.
Meckbayer I could not agree more! My favorite part of this course was when I was on hole 15 tee box, but for some odd reason I couldn't hit my tee shot. Maybe it was because of the over hanging willow trees that they have yet to cut. Its nice because no matter how you decide to hit the tee shot. You will get very lucky and hit the tree one second after the ball actually leaves the tee. Couldn't have enjoyed it anymore!
