Ok
Greens were punched a dressed a few weeks ago - but were heavily dressed again - would be nice if there was notification prior to booking. Putting was best guess.
T-boxes need some attention as well as some of the fairways. Multiple types of grasses and weeds growing everywhere. Definitely a winter rules-type course. Pace was good for a Sunday. Layout is pretty basic. Most holes look the same.
Good course
I always play rounds of golf here, ang the layout is really good. But today I had a bad round because sand was sprayed on the green.. But everyone had fun and I will go again when the greens are in good condition.
Not good experience
Not good green conditions on some holes, smoking golfers while rounding and not appropriate attire.
Pace of play
Pace of play was slow . Started at 1125am, reach hole 13 at 320pm . That’s pretty bad
Bad conditions after huge rainstorms
I’ve played Wilson many times and I anticipated that conditions wouldn’t be the best after the recent rain storms. In fact, there were 15-20 trees that were toppled including one that partially blocked entrance to the pro shop. On the course, the greens weren’t flooded but maintenance haven’t yet cleared all the debris from wind blown leaves, branches, etc. none of the felled trees interfered with any holes. All tees were moved to the junior tee off locations, making the course play ver short. This was probably a good thing to save the permanent tee boxes.
In addition there was a huge ‘lake’ that formed on the 9th fairway that seemed Bo be getting bigger as a drainage canal emptying into it. I’m confident that maintenance will get the course back in shape soon, but I don’t recommend playing here in the next week or so.
I will return in a week or so after the current rain storms pass through and maintenance has a chance to clean things up
Great value and charm
Really enjoyed this experience. Has a mid century LA vibe, kind of how Santa Anita does. It’s a Muni with Muni prices so you will hear the usual complaints about less than perfect conditions of greens, tee boxes, and traps, as well as pace of play. But it is a very playable and lovely course.
One hidden value: it’s tough to lose golf balls here! 😂 No punishing hazards, brush, tall grass or water. Played the whole course without losing a ball which is a victory in itself. Newer players can play along the ground here and have a great experience. Savvier players can do some shot shaping as well here and let it fly toward some reachable par 4s.
Good practice areas including double deck driving range with Top Tracer enabled.
Only negatives were one lady in the pro shop was a bit abrupt. And the cart almost didn’t make it back over the last hill. All in all though, tough to find a better golfing value.
Best Muni in LA City
1/24/23 Some of the Wilson Course Tee Boxes after the 5th hole are under repair (roped off) not sure when they'll get around to opening those back up so beware. And if you're going to ride a cart be prepared to share w/ someone, with Covid being "over" they don't do single riders anymore.
Everything good
I had a good round today
It was raining so we rode the cart road, but it was raining and it had a taste
It's always a fun course to play.
