Murphy Creek Golf Course
About
Murphy Creek Golf Course is a public, 18-hole course with a links-style layout that was designed by Ken Kavanaugh. The course is prairie-like with a gently rolling terrain. It stretches over 7,548 yards from its longest tees, playing to a par of 72. The layout is quite challenging with several lengthy holes and well-bunkered greens. Due to the openness of the golf course, wind also becomes a difficult factor of the game. The natural landscape includes small lakes and creeks that create water hazards as well as a few trees sprinkled throughout. Murphy Creek Golf Course is also known for being immaculately maintained.

Great track and super value
If you think Riverdale Dunes will put it on you you haven't seen this monster. Perfect greens, well manicured fairways, kids play free after 1:30 p.m. and kids tee boxes are cut out of the fairway. Definitely need to play the right tee box for your handicap. Think Riverdale on steroids. Front nine winds through farmland with links style play. Very few trees or water but if your in the rough you need a beacon to find your ball, and if you do find it just take your medicine and chip out. Back nine is less rural and less links style as you play through a community but the conditions are just as good and just as challenging. 17 is a 240 yard par four and when the wind is up, as it almost always is, your a driver into the green (yes even for a 310 average drive). Because this track is at E-470 and Jewell there is no wind break so you always (well almost always) have wind. From the back it is punishing, as you move up in tee boxes the course becomes less menacing. At $60.00 for 18 with a cart this track is, in my opinion, the best course in the state. Super friendly staff and hosted the U.S. Amateur few years back.
Green throughout
Murphy Creek is in great condition. From the tee boxes to the fairways and the greens, this course is well maintained. It offers some challenging holes that give you an opportunity to work on your game. I would definitely recommend this course to my friends.
Great Conditions, True challenge
City of Aurora Golf consistently delivers fantastic course conditions. Murphy Creek was spectacular 10/5.
Really beautiful and challenging course.
Highly Recommend!
Play Appropriate Tee Boxes
Course was in great shape. Lots of cool holes.
If its windy like it was for us make sure you play one tee box up from what you think you should play. Lots of holes have long carry over fescue, water, etc on tee boxes. We played from the Blue. It was challenging but had to hit solid tee shots to stay in play. Had two 450+ par 4s, one driveable par 4, and two par 3s playing over 230 one was crosswind and the into a head wind.
Bring lots of golf balls if you dont have your B game. Overall fun course but expect a few big numbers on some holes.
the grass cutting was poor Grass around the bunker was ridiculous. You couldn't find your ball unless you stepped on it. very frustrating to lose ball that were not out of play over and over again
Tough Conditions
The wind was up and the constant rain we have had over the last few weeks have left the rough extremely thick. Good luck finding your ball if you are not in the fairway. This course is tough enough without wet rough and wind.
The course is so lush and in remarkable shape. Greens are excellent! the staff is super friendly, and kudos to the marshall for pushing the group ahead of us after they fell 2 holes behind. He really helped to pick up the pace.
I had a great time even though I got beat up pretty bad on the back 9. This is still one of the best layouts around and always fun to play. Food in the bar is also very good.
Doesn't look like they keep up with their mowing
… And there were lots of Rangers on the course, but they never say a word to anyone, including my group, which included two guys who were so slow. I didn't enjoy the layout it feels like they cut corners to stay on a certain amount of acreage.
Nice mix of holes
The course was fun to play. Didn’t realize the golf now price didn’t include cart fees.
A lot of fun
This course is pretty long with a good deal of hazards to go with some pretty wide fairways and some real narrow ones. They layout and variance in the holes is the most fun, and priced very reasonably.
Can be overwhelming
Course has many sand traps and waste areas on most holes and par 3's are very challenging even from the white tees.
Course has horrible communication
Be prepared to show up and the course be closed or only half open without any warning. Golf shop needs to take some customer service classes. Spend your $ elsewhere.
Cool course, Terrible Pace.
I really enjoyed this course. Layout was challenging and demanding for my skill level but also could see it being playable for other skill levels. Design and features were visually appealing all day, and it was cool to watch and hear the fighter jets from nearby Air Force base take off during the round. However, when I say they were appealing all day, I mean the round took nearly all day. I played at 8 AM on a Wednesday morning and the pace was so slow I didn’t finish the round until 1:30. 5.5 hours on a weekday morning is insanely slow and the course ranger apologized for the pace but did not appear to be asking groups to pick it up or keep moving.
