Great day at the Golf Club of houston. Photo submitted by jmz320 on 08/25/2015
Pace of play
endured a 6 hour round sunday 4/21. group in front of us couldn't seem, to grasp the concept that with cart path only you might reference the cart GPS yardage, take two clubs to ball, use range finder, then select. No. go to ball, use range finder, go back to cart, get club. In addition to this absurdity, they routinely would not tee off on a hole until the group ahead was on the green. they would sit around an BS on the tee box. It was painful. Attempts to get the marshall to hurry them along were not successful. Brutal round, but the course is nice, fun, and in good shape. If they had any beverage service out on the course, that would be a welcomed addition.
My overall rating is due almost exclusively to pace of play. 6 hours is absurd on every level.
Tough but fair. Bring your “A” game.
This course is in immaculate shape. Hosted Shell Houston Open for years and will now host a LIV event in 2024. It’s very challenging to score with a lot of angles and forced carries. Greens were fast with a number of multi-tiered greens that required good approach placement to give yourself a chance. No ball washers and very few places to dispose of trash or find a washroom. No cart girl in sight on a Saturday mid-morning round. Course winds through preserve just outside of a large neighborhood. Pro shop and grill are both very nice. Expensive but worth the round. Easily as nice or nicer than many courses you might play in other cities at a higher price.
Course was great, the drink after, not so much.
The course is great. The conditions were great and the greens had great speed and rolled true. It was a little cool and breezy but an awesome course. Especially with the Golf Now deal and the tee time credit! A great value. I purchased a GolfLogix Green Book to help me read the greens. Some reads are challenging. I plan to play the course regularly, so I bought the book. It did help me on several reads. The range is excellent too.
The drink after was disappointing. I ordered a Manhattan, and the bartender didn't have sweet vermouth. So, he concocted something he called a substitute without telling me. No cherry. He should have informed me he would have to find a solution which was okay, but not a Manhattan and he should not charge for a Manhattan. And put a cherry or two bro. Jeez. That part was lame. If the bar were half as good as the course, it would have been a perfect round.
1st round of the year
Course was in great January shape. T-s, greens, fairways where well manicured and green. Rough was dormant as expected and cut down. I'll plan to hit this once a month up until the June tourney to see how the course progresses from amateur friendly to professional insanity. Just note that in May, whiskey will take take the sting out of a triple bogey 4putt when they start rolling 12 to 13 on the greens. Hum Baby!!
Fun course to play
Fun smooth course, not to hard and in good shape. Pretty fun to let the driver go
Very Fast Greens
What a great track! Played this past weekend for the first time. Besides the wind blowing 25 it was an awesome day can’t rate this place high enough!
