Fine course for the money....
This course is a regular in our foursome's rotation! One of our favs! Sure hope this course does not go the way of Escondido Country Club!!!
an ok walk through park
Course okay with desperate need for a ranger to keep play moving along. Got stuck behind two of the slowest players ever who have no clue what etiquette is.
Green
The greens were hard but manageable but they had recent cut grooves which prevented the ball from rolling true
This course has it all.
SLRD is the best value course in all of San Diego County.
I am hearing rumors that it might be closed and turned into a wet land.
That would be a terrible tragedy.
Great Day
The tees and greens were in excellent shape. Nice challenges on some holes. Lots and lots of trees, but fairly forgiving based on the wide fairways. Had a great time.
Decent
Overall this is a pretty ok experience. We hadn't played here in a couple months but chose this course over another in the area because of the experience we had had in the restaurant and bar...their breakfast was always very good and the place just had a very comfortable feel to it that was a great start to a day if golf.
Yesterday we arrived and found that the restaurant had been shut down. The staff couldn't explain the reason (was in a renovation or a permanent closure?) but that food now was being served from the snack bar only. The snack bar is ok-ish and the food was good but it definitely takes away from the overall experience because it's a pretty bland dining location.
We will definitely reconsider going back anytime soon since there are so many other options in the area.
good value
This is the greenest course we have played this winter good condition for winter
Cost reasonable
LOT OF FUN
First time playing here, had a good time. Two of us
went around the course in 3 1/2 hours. good course
some holes can be challenging. course was in fair shape for this time of yeart
Good layout, but not maintained well
Very dry fairways. Burned up. Nice greens, however. Would only play this course on a heavily discounted deal.
Stay out or get out of the trees
It is an older course, but pretty well kept up. The greens are in good shape. Generally, I enjoy the course. However, with wind usually at me, water on the right and OB on left #10 usually gets me even though there is a fairly large landing area -- next time.
Great Value
I always love playing SLR Downs. The course offers good challenging format for shot placement. The greens always seem to roll and play very well. As for the staff, the ladies there are always friendly and great and welcome you with a smile.
I always look forward to playing here.
No Marshall Slow play and tons of leaves on the fairways
Course has amazing greens and and awesome bunkers. The fairways are pretty beat up and tee boxes are unlevel and missing grass, There was no cart girl and there was also no marshal to speed up the hackers. Not worth the 36 bucks they were asking. Food was great tho and the staff that is there is definitely really nice.
Great course with wide fairways lined with trees
I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this round. For the most part the course is wide open so a hook or slice can be found and recovered, but there are quite a few holes lined with trees making that rescue shot a bit more difficult.
I loved the minimal cart paths too; only at the tees, the greens and to the next hole. It's been a while since I've played a course like that. Most all nowadays, good and bad, have full cart paths.
Lots of leaves
Fall is here. The only bad thing about San Luis Rey Downs is the leaves blowing across the fairway. And I know fairways. I hit 12 of the 13, only missing the first. Get off line on this course and you have a hard finding the ball this time of year. But the course is in pretty condition and the weather was great. A very enjoyable round.
This course is very sienic.
Overall very good would play it again. The course has some difficult holes where water is in play.
Fast greens
Course was in great shape, with some fast greens. So fast that I didn't have a hole with less than 2 putts,
this course needs help.
Course was maintained, but in bad shape. It could be a great course of someone spent the money.
Nice day, but very slow play
I hadn't played this course in over a year. Off the first tee it looked wide open. Then soon caught up to the slow players. The threesome that thought it was Sunday at Augusta, the couple whose wife was still learning to swing a club. No marshalls to speed up play. Luckily I was paired with a fellow that was pleasant to talk to.
Long par 3s
Older style course, challenging holes, lots of trees, lots of trouble, good course to learn course management on
Way too long of a wait no organization
I like the course very much but waited almost 10 minutes every hole because of the 4 groups in front of us. There was no marshal to be found and pace of play was ridiculous. Its too bad because the course is nice and could be fun.
