Harding
Rode the Blues (6423/70.1/118) with Brad, Frank and Jimmy mid day. 4H, 45M POP, the 4some in front of us was SLOW!!! But excellent weather, around 90, calm and clear plus being in a very fun group to play with made the pace seem better than it was.
First time I had played here in about 40 years, remembered almost nothing about the course. Classic old school tree lined layout. Fun course to play.
Tees were pretty beat up, lots of divots and bare ground. Not close to well maintained.
Fairways semi lush and generally decent to play from.
Rough mowed down low and inconsistent. Could have lush, thin and hardpan areas with a few feet of each other.
Was glad I did not find a sand trap. They looked rough, not well maintained.
Greens very nice. Medium fast and receptive to holding irons and pitches. Numerous holes you had to be very aware not to get above the hole.
Carts had GPS but no divot mix bottles. Two tier driving range that was adequate. Well stocked pro shop with no frills customer service. No on course services except a snack stand at the turn. Recommended.
Good value, Fairways not in great shape
I’ve played here many times over the years, enjoyable course and a good value. The two major issues are slow pace of play and bare spots in many fairways that should be marked as ground under repair but aren’t. Lots of deer year round and rabbits in the spring with coyotes stalking both of them. I would mention a couple OB spots that are not obvious from the tee box since they occur where Harding fairways abut the adjacent Wilson golf course. The First hole is a long downhill with poorly marked OB all along the right side which is marked as a white stripe on the cart path and comes into play near the green if your approach shot is errant and bounces right. Second hole is short par 4 with elevated green and usually plays into the wind so a half to full extra club on approach may be needed. Most better golfers will lay up to a comfortable wedge distance. Fourth hole is a dogleg left lay up for most longer hitters with a poorly marked OB if you go too far right off the tee or even too long through the right side of the fairway. The tenth hole can also be an issue with an OB if you hit it long and right. All of the other hazards are pretty obvious from the tee. You’ll probably hear some exotic animal /bird zoo sounds on the 18th tee and fairway.which abuts the LA Zoo.
Solid Local Muni
Solid Local Muni that is fun, and wide. Easy to par, but challenging to score. I just wish it was easier to get a tee-time and pace of play was a bit quicker.
