Expected better course conditions. Easy to fix
Staff in pro shop very friendly and efficient. Other staff not very friendly almost like they did not want to bother with customers.
Course is unkept in may areas including two tee boxes that were in terrible shape with bare dirt.
I do not play in this climate zoe often, but the quality of the grass is really poor.
In addition, a few greens were relocated by a lot and their cart map, hole distance markers, or 18 birdies were not updated. At least they should have warned about that during the check in.
At several holes the cart would not move due to the gps malfunction
The teeoff are had missing color marks
And many other issues that resulted in poor rating
In the midwest, much better quality courses are half the price
Good course at a reasonable price
Good course, with very slow greens and fairways very dry, I imagine because of the winter conditions.
Staff are friendly and service is good. We got better fees using Golf Now then reserving another round at the club.
Beautiful
Great course! Nice carts.(speakers, gps) greens looked great, nice fairways. Not crowded.
Decent Course
Played the Ocean course, so checked out the River Course. Only saw the Bev cart once on 17.
River course much better
The River course is much better than the ocean course. Holes varied with different challenges. The greens were a bit slow. Ocean is hard dogleg right the hard dogleg left then back again. If you can only play one, the River course is the best. There is only one hole along ocean on the ocean course.
Ok
For the cost per round, this course should be maintained better. Beautiful views. Driving range in poor shape
Rio Mar River Course
We loved it. The staff was great. Sabrina and Paola kept us supplied with food and drinks. The views are amazing and the course was well maintained.
Little pricey, but worth the expense
Extremely playable. Nice mix of challenging and gettable holes. Greens are a touch slower than I’d like but pace of play and course conditions were excellent
Laid Up On Expectations
I was very excited to play this course during my vacation to Rio Mar. I flew down with my own clubs, since the club charges $70 for a rental set, and was eager to play what looked to be a top tier course designed by Greg Norman.
First off, the conditions were extremely underwhelming for the price tag on this course. Weeds everywhere, dead spots on fairways, and greens slower than your living room carpet. The natural beauty surrounding every hole is fantastic if you’re not used to Caribbean scenery. The layout was interesting enough, some doglegs, plenty of water and hazards in play, and challenging approach shots.
Carts were equipped with GPS and the cooler on my cart was preloaded with ice, and two bottles of water came complimentary with the cart as well as two towels stashed in the overhead compartment of the cart (I didn’t notice these until one fell out after hitting a bump on the cart path).
I’d feel more comfortable paying $75 for a round rather than the $150 they charge. I’ve played many courses in the $150 price range and they were MUCH nicer all around than this club. From the customer service experience, to layout, to conditions, don’t come expecting what you may be used to in the states for that price. You’re paying a premium for being at a resort in Puerto Rico.
I originally had a tee time for the Ocean course but was told by the starter upon arrival that its fairways and greens had just been aerated. So I accepted the invitation to switch to the River course.
Will Never Play Here Again
I may have been spoiled by the other courses in the area (Bahia Beach and Grand Reserve) but this was the worst experience I had golfing my entire trip. Course conditions were terrible! Tee boxes were barely there, greens were non existent. Couldn’t even justify keeping a score. The greens are just an extension of fairways at this point. Do Not Play here. For the amount of Money ($150 ea Player) this is an absolute rip off. Will never play here again! Do yourself the favor and Save your money.
Really nice course!
Nice course and great people. Moved fast and was allowed to play through appropriately! It’s not so difficult.it’s enjoyable.
