Nice Course
Course is in great shape. Plays short. Still has good challenges for all kinds of golfers.
Great fairways and greens
Staff very helpful for this first timer. Well maintained. Not long but you have to hit quality shots to score well.
Swinging In The Rain
The drive from my home to Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course is about 90 minutes so I do not play here as often as I would like, however, I always enjoy this course since its new John LaFoy redesign. It is a true country setting within the city, a nice layout which allows for an easy walk through the pines, along with a few water features to keep you on your toes.
Weather on the day I played was a bit damp and the rains had been around for the two previous days as well. I chose to play even though carts were restricted to their pathways. What I found was I had the course all to myself, what a treat!
The Bermuda grass from tees through greens is as near perfect as you will find on any course, public or private; even though the greens were still a bit sandy from their recent 'punching' and 'sanding'.
My one and only disappointment was the bunkers. Several had washed out from all the rain this year and are in dire need of repair, (I played them as "ground under repair"). That bit of information would have been nice to know in advance, say, at the pro shop as I was paying the fee the guy could have mentioned about the bunker situation. (I hit over a green to find water standing in the bunker where the sand should have been, that ball is still there.)
Even with the few troubles I had with the bunkers, I had so much fun and enjoyed the day tremendously, swinging in the rain.
When you have the opportunity to play GMGC, take it, I trust you will enjoy playing here as much as I.
Tremendous staff
Great value and course is in great shape. Staff is always friendly and go the extra mile to help you lower your score. I wouldn't spend my money anywhere else.
A John LaFoy gem of a redesign.
Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course was built in 1941, prior to WW II; the town called on John LaFoy for an update and remodel in the late 1980's and are happy they did as LaFoy studied under George Cobb when he, George, remodeled Augusta National.
True to the standards of old, the Goldsboro Muni. GC is a wonderful trip into the past with a walkable course over a layout that brings country into the city.
What I found on the day I first played here was, a very good first impression but within minutes that impression turned up several degrees by the staff who were more than cordial, they were friends I had not met previously.
The facility is as nice as any public course and much better than a great many semi-private I have played; from carts to range balls to practice facilities they have it all together at GMGC.
Like breakfast, eat here, good food and service from a lady who knows her stuff, who will make your tummy happy for a fair price at 7 AM.
OH yeah, the course; when I played it the entire course, aside a bit of bother with number 13, was in fine shape tee through green. There are holes you can reach if you are a big hitter but then you have to make the putt; my playing partner hit two par four greens in one and three putted both as the undulations are quite deceiving, better look at that putt from all angles.
Although I gave four stars in several categories, they should have been four and one half; excellent is a tough rate to achieve for any course but the GMGC, in my opinion rates as high as any public facility I have ever encountered and I include Torry Pines in that group.
Take a walk in the past, "go play" Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course, you will be glad you did.
Course in excellent condition.
Excellent pace of play and course was in great condition.
Good Challenge
Challenging course for any golfer. Holes of all types.
Double booked
Took us a long time to get started . We had about 5 groups going out at one time. After that it seemed to workout and space out a little. Granted it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon but it seemed a bit excessive. This place is a good for your money course if you can get a hot deal on golf now app. The normal rate seems a bit high. 26$ on weekday and 36$ on weekend. Overall had fun and enjoyed the course.
Great course. ..great price!!!
This course has always been a great course. Avoid going after a rainy day because some of the holes get really nasty after rain and makes it very difficult to play. As for the staff, in my opinion it appears to me that the only people treated nicely are the members or regulars. Its hard to get a smile from anyone there. Again..overall great course with a great price.
Golf now
Best app ever!!! It's the only way I play golf!!!!!
AWESOME!!!
Great golf course for the money..can't beat Best in this area
Great municipal course. Good value for $$$$
Fast greens but maintained very good. Great job of keeping pine needles off the fairways and greens. Not a lot of water which is nice. Only plays in effect like 4 times. Great municipal course, staff was AWESOME.
Great course, fun layout. Great greens.
Great course, each hole has a little character from the last hole, Par 5's play short from the whites, you should get there in two so the scoring is fun. Great greens but fast. All the par 3s are different from one another. Staff was AWESOME. Great course, if in town you must check it out! Will be back again for sure
Very good condition overall and would definitely play it again.
Course in great shape. only issue was all the rain we have had in the month of Aug and the night before. Fairways were lush and greens were in nice shape.
The course was well maintained.
The pro shop staff was very friendly and helpful. The course was in great shape and was on par with courses that cost more to play. Will be playing again very soon.
A flat course with great features, billed as the best in the county.
This is an old style course owned by the city, very well maintained
with new bermuda greens installed in the past two years. Course is not very long, flat a good walking course for those who care too.
Has a large practice putting area and driving range. Get a lot of military play with the military located in the area.
You can play this course under four hours . Carolyn, who lease the dining , is known as the best cook in town. Good food, good golf for all handicaps.
Great course
Good course and fairly open. And a couple really nice par 3's
