Fun course in great shape

This course was in great shape, fairways were plush and green w/o any dry spots and the greens were rolling true. Fun course with a decent layout that is fairly wide open. Got away with a few errant drives. Well worth the $65 twilight rate, not sure I would pay the normal $110 rate though.

Old Timers Rule!

Started all on the back nine, as the men's club seniors (70-80 yr old's) were having an "event" on the front nine. That "event" resulted in a significant jamb up, pace of play was brutal!

Nice but not 68.00 nice

Tee boxes weren't cut down at all. The people that play the course need to remember, replace your divot AND another one every time. Having a ranger on the course for pace of play would have helped the experience. Greens weren't incredibly fast but I liked them 29 putts total on the day. It's a 35-40.00 course all day long. I will admit it's rather tough to figure out even how to check in once you find the appropriate parking. I had to ask 3 different employees to get behind the building to actually check in. I did enjoy the fairways and they had some nice water features. 81 on the day not bad first time out if I catch it on a hot deal I would consider it again. Thanks

A Favourite in SD County

This course is a regular stop for my wife and I and very playable for both of us(my hdcp is 2; her's is 36).
We did play there on April 5 as well, but they had aerated 10 days before so the greens were almost back to normal on April 20.
Can't say enough about the staff and facilities. Pace of plat is always good unless you get behind a tournament which they do have each week, but just check b4 you book.

Punched Greens

Course was in great shape outside of the recently punched greens, take you 2 putts and move on!

Also, we got stuck behind their Monday Men's Group who needed to finish their 18 on the Front 9. Once we sat behind them we flew on the Back 9 and finished in under 4 hours total.

Round Started at 11:15 and was on the way home by 2:45.

Good Course, Great Pace of Play.

My wife's parents live near this course, and we have always wanted to play there. However, usually we can't find any tee time deals that would be in our price range ($30-60 per person for 18). So when we finally found a good tee time with a fair price on Golfnow, we jumped on the chance to play on Valentine's Day.
Beginning from the time we pulled into the parking lot, we had a great golf experience. It stared with the friendly employees in and around the pro-shop, but when the starter told us we were actually teeing off right before our designated 11:04 tee time my jaw about hit the floor. I can't remember the last time I had a middle of the day tee time on a weekend and actually teed off on time or even a couple minutes early. This kind of time keeping is apparently standard with RB Inn because we finished our 18 hole round in 4 hours! It was not because the course was empty either, but the Player's Assistants did a fantastic job of keeping all the groups moving. Which brings me to another positive attribute, the staff. Every employee we came across was very friendly, which is not always the case at other courses in the area. I believe this can be attributed to RB Inn also being a resort and not just a golf course (and good management).
When it comes to the golf course itself, it also shines. When taking into account the drought conditions in Southern California, the course is in really good shape. The fairways are pretty full and green, and the putting greens are in great condition and roll true to line. Possibly the best part of the course conditions are the bunkers. The sand is light and fluffy, and with good technique easy to get out of. If you are not a good sand player stay away from this course because there are multiple sand traps looming in strategic places on every hole. The overall difficulty of the course falls around slightly more difficult than average. The course is not long, but some of the holes are kind of tight with water, ob, and the previously mentioned ever present sand traps sprinkled all over.
The only downsides of this course are the driving range is not a full range (can't hit woods), and to my knowledge it does not offer discount 9 hole tee times for early morning play.
Over $100 for a golf round is a big stretch for this course, but if you can find a discount tee time you should not pass on an opportunity to play here. The course is enjoyable, and with the quick pace of play you, will find yourself with plenty of time to check out the other amenities the RB Inn has to offer.

Why subject yourself

Had a late morning tee time from underpar. Was told that our time was 30 min later. Teed off 50 minutes later. Played a painful 5 and half hour round on the button. Was told by staff after that this is normal. Terribly mis-managed course.

Rancho Bernardo Inn

This course is one of the few that hasn't been severely affected by the Southern California drought. Many courses are just watering greens and tees, but RBI has applied some water to the fairways with the result that there are many green, lush areas. It's not perfect, far from it, but it's a lot better that many of the other area courses in the $50-70 range.

The course itself is an interesting layout, with a good variety of holes. Our last time out we played the front twice because the pace of play was so slow we would have struggled to get in before dark. The player assistant suggested it, and it was a good idea. There was a bit of a shotgun ahead of us and the going was slow. Staff were helpful, but there is a lot of construction in the parking lot area making things a bit congested. I'm not even sure if the range is operational. We hit a few last time out and it was horrible.

Probably won't go back since we've found other area courses that are cheaper, more fun, better condition and with full grass ranges and practice areas and GPS carts. (Eastlake and The Vineyard.)

RBI

Played the Blues (6272/70.7/129), matched up with Dennis, Max & Steve using Forelinx. The weather was overcast, mid 60's and breezy. POP was a little over 4 hours, pretty good for a holiday afternoon.

The tees were average, mostly winter thin and level. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair.

The fairways were good, dormant Bermuda winter thin sprayed green with decent coverage.

The rough had a few bad areas but was decent overall. It was generally good to chip out of, the ball usually sat up.

The traps were very well maintained with good sand, nice to play out of.

The greens putted medium fast, a little bumpy, usually firm but held iron shots well. A couple greens had some bad spots close to the outside, but that did not affect play, they were excellent in the areas that mattered.

Fun layout, there are only a couple of holes that jump out as really demanding, however there are no real easy holes either. Also, almost every hole has some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive or crooked. There are a decent amount of lakes and many holes have OB left where you find condo's and parts of the Inn located. Factor that in with a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes. I usually seem to make a lot of "comfortable" bogeys on this layout and rarely get a good string of par or better holes in a long row here.

The customer service from the pro shop to the starter was excellent. No drink cart out today. Good to course in better than average condition. Recommended = Yes.

Rancho Bernardo Inn

Played the Blues (70.7/129/6272) mid day 12/19 using Forelinx. Played as a 3some, matched up with Phil & Tony in 4H, 25M for a very fun round. We played 11 holes unimpeded, then took longer to play the final 7 holes after we caught VERY slow groups in front of us. The weather was partly cloudy and windy and got worse as the day wore on as a winter storm was blowing in.

The tees were above average overall, mostly level, decent coverage mowed close. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair.

The dormant Bermuda fairways were sprayed green with good winter coverage.

The dormant Bermuda rough is still tan in color. Good coverage for the winter and had more areas that were thinner than the fairways. Where it was thicker, it was tough to get good club on the ball for fuller shots, probably a 1/2 stroke penalty.

The traps were decently maintained with good sand.

The greens were smooth, firm and quick bordering fast. They held approach shots well.

This course layout is not overly tight but has a few tight holes. Almost every hole has some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive. There is a decent amount of lakes and many holes have OB left where you find condo's and parts of the Inn located. Factor that in with a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes, and you need to keep it in the short grass here.

The customer service from the pro shop to the starter was excellent, complimentary coffee in the pro shop. Drink cart out making the rounds. Good to very good course in better than average condition that plays better than it looks. Definitely recommended, especially if you can get a deal.

Played the Blues (70.7/129/6272) on dawn patrol using Forelinx. Played as a 4some in 4H with other Forelinxers Daniel, David & Calvin. The weather was partly cloudy and breezy but nice for golf after it warmed up.

The tees were good overall. Decent coverage, mostly level, mowed close. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair.

The dormant Bermuda fairways were sprayed green with good winter coverage.

The dormant Bermuda rough has good winter coverage and had more areas that were thinner than the fairways. Where it was thicker, it was about a 1/2 shot penalty. I usually got good club on the ball but was almost always off line where the rough turned my club.

The traps were well maintained with good sand.

The greens were very nice & held approach shots well. They were smooth, firm & had few ball marks. Even with morning dew on them, they were quick & after they dried out, fast.

Almost every hole has some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive/crooked. Played the Blues (70.7/129/6272) using Forelinx. The weather was 70ish and breezy.

The tees were average, mostly level. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair.

The fairways were good with decent coverage. I usually had good lies in the fairway, which had been sprayed green to color the dormant bermuda.

The rough had some bad areas but was decent overall. It was generally good to chip out of, the ball usually sat up. However, I found it tough to get good club on the ball for fuller shots, probably a 1/2 stroke penalty.

The traps were very well maintained with good sand.

The greens are probably average in size for a 6000+ yard course & putted nice. Medium fast speed, usually firm but held iron shots well.

Fun layout, now that I have played here a few times I appreciate a few holes more than I did initially. There are only a few holes that jump out as really demanding, but there are no real easy holes either. Rancho Bernardo Inn

Played the Blacks (72.3/133/6613), teeing off 1st a.m. with RGM2525 using Forelinx. We played as a 2some in slightly over 3H. The weather was overcast and getting comfortable as it warmed up by the end of the round.

The tees were furry and at best average. All the par 3 tees needed divot repair.

The bermuda rough had some thin areas but was decent overall.

The dormant bermuda fairways had been sprayed green and had good coverage.

The traps were excellent with a good amount of thick sand. Tough to play out of on fairway fuller shots because they were so soft. I had 2 plug on high shots into green side traps.

The greens are average in size for a 6600 yard course. They putted decently, medium fast speed and a little bumpy at times. A little soft, but held iron shots well.

The layout is fun. Decent amount of lakes and OB, plus there is a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes. Many holes are ringed mostly by condo's or part of the Inn. The way the holes are laid out OB left is a constant theme on this course.

The customer service from everyone encountered was excellent. Good course in better than average condition. Recommended = Yes, especially if you can get a deal.

Rancho Bernardo Inn

Played the Blues (70.7/129/6272) first off @ 642am 10/25 playing as a 3some in 3H, 10M. Played with Mark & Mark, 2 very nice retired Navy guys using my 2nd round @ RBI via Forelinx.

The tees were average overall, mostly level. Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair.

The fairways were decent with good coverage. I usually had good lies in the fairway.

The rough had some bad areas but was Okay overall. It was tough to get good club on the ball for fuller shots, probably a 1/2 stroke penalty. I found it to be good to chip out of, the ball usually sat up.

The traps were decently maintained with good sand.

The greens are mostly recovered from their recent aeration. They putted better than the previous day. Medium speed and a little bumpy at times, usually firm but held iron shots well. Probably average in size for a 6000+ yard course.

This course layout is what I would call sneaky tough. There are only a few holes that jump out as really demanding, but there are no real easy holes anywhere, and almost all have some sort of penalty stroke lurking on the outer edges if you get too aggressive. I liked the layout a little more the 2nd time exposed to it. #18 is an excellent finishing hole, a dogleg right par 5 with with a red hazard to avoid off the tee right, then a lake with a water feature to avoid left as you play severely uphill to a 3 tiered green. There is a decent amount of lakes and many holes have OB left where you find condo's and parts of the Inn located. Factor that in with a red hazard drainage area that runs through the middle of the course that comes into play on probably 1/3 of the holes.

The customer service from the pro shop to the starter was excellent, no drink cart out early a.m. Good to very good course in better than average condition. However, based on the rates. Recommended if you can get a deal.

Rancho Bernardo Inn

Played the Blacks (72.3/133/6613), teeing off early afternoon 10/24 with Itslikeimsayin using our Forelinx membership. We played as a 2some in around 4 1/2 hours. It was a fairly typical weekend pace, we waited practically every shot the last dozen or so holes in warm/breezy conditions.

Some of the par 3 tees needed divot repair, the tees overall were average.

The rough had some bad areas but was Okay overall. Could be tough to get good club on the ball for fuller shots. However, I found it to be good to chip out of, the ball usually sat up.

The fairways were also decent, good coverage, no complaints on any lies I had in the fairway.

The traps were decently maintained with good sand.

The greens were average in size for a 6600 yard course. Mostly recovered from their recent aeration, they putted decently. Medium speed and a little bumpy at times, usually firm but held iron shots well.

The customer service from everyone encountered was excellent. My 1st time playing here, and had I not just finished playing @ Maderas an hour earlier, I would have been much more impressed than I was. Good course, maybe even very good in better than average condition. However, based on the rates I have seen posted for RBI on golf discount sites, it would not have met my expectations if I were paying even discount rates.

Recommended if you can get a deal.

Too Cramped, mismanaged pace of play

The guy behind the counter took 9 minutes trying to figure out how to ring up a cigar for another customer. Then when I got to the counter he said "OMG you guys need to hurry and get on the Tee." We were rushed, over charged and the round was 5 1/2 hours.

We waited on every hole and in the middle of our round a twosome was placed in front of us on 12...which made it slower.

No easy access to the course from your car. There is no parking and the lot stacked so close that backing out and in is challenging. Overpriced. If you are serious about good golf experiences, avoid this over rated course.
