Saturday afternoon
Course in good shape...green with new sand in bunkers. Was crowded and backed up at end of front 9 in the afternoon...but Marshall said our 4 some could split up and play front 9 again which we breezed thru (as a 2 some)
Course reconstruction
Course was in good shape but 3 holes were shortened (a lot) while bunkers were being rebuilt. Range was closed for hotel parking, large convention going on. Half way house was backed up, 20 min wait due to conventioneers trying to find food when they ran out at hotel. No one answered the 9th tee order phone. So what could have been a great experience, was only an OK one. Would play again, but would check course maintenance first.
business round
Very nice atmosphere. Parking is an issue but golf and bar are above average. Customer really enjoyed the outing.
Every shot
You will need every shot in the bag this is a thinking man's course.
temporary holes
Disappointed to play two temporary holes without advanced notice. would not recommend with temporary holes
Expensive for what you get
I've played Rancho Bernardo Inn a few dozen times. We used to pay $45/round until a couple of years ago. But they have since bumped it up to $100/round and we don't play here very often because we have many other options!
Honestly, at $100/round, this course is not worth the money. If you are a better player, you will enjoy Carmel Mtn Ranch a lot more for less than $50/round. There are a few interesting holes, but many holes are poorly designed. #14 is very narrow all the way and has a water hazard along the entire side. #15 has a hazard running across the middle of the fairway less than 200 yards from the tee box AND it has a hazard running along the entire side. Same for #13 and #16. And I have never shot par on #18. In fact, I have never witnessed anyone ever shoot a par on 18. And what's with the 20 yard wide hazard running across the fairway on #1. You also can't take the cart on several fairways (cart path only).
There are also a lot of hackers on this course. I suspect they market this Inn as a weekend getaway to customers in Los Angeles and they come in by the droves and make play really slow. Overall, very annoying and expensive.
Good luck finding this place
Almost missed my tee time trying to find this place and I used a GPS. Almost constant work being done on the course as we played, very distracting.I had seen this course on golf now often and wanted to play it as it is close to my home but price was too high. Found it at a decent price and booked it but was very disappointed. Not the quality of course I had hoped for. Not sure what they think they have here but have played nicer courses in the area for much less.
Great alternative to Torrey
Good looking golf course, greens were in excellent shape although the fairways were a little rough. Crews were working on the bunkers, most of them seemed hard, a little rocky, and needed sand. Plenty of reachable par fours, as a senior I like that. Frost delay of two hours, I called them early in the morning and they told me my tee time would only be delayed a half hour, but when we got there it was obvious it would be an hour and a half or more, which wouldn't allow us to finish the round. To their credit, they plugged us into a gap on the back nine and we just finished before dark. This is an older parkland course, a style I happen to like. We had played Torrey Pines the two days previously and the greens compared favorably. Will play this one again when I'm out here. It's a $100/round course, at $67 on Golfnow we got a great value.
Good course but a little expensive
The course was in great condition over all but the greens were little bumpy.Open fairways with lots of deep bunkers.Needs holes rolled.Great sandwich at the turn.Beautiful resort. Many homes on course.
Mow the tees
The course was very nice, crew was awesome as well. Didn't care for many of the tees as the grass was not short and felt like I was teeing from the 1 st cut
Great fun
Challenging, yet fun. Great location and great course. Played with my wife who is a novice golfer and we both had a pleasurable experience.
Notify "Golf Now" Users of Maintenance
I was in San Diego on vacation and booked this tee time through "Golf Now". It's tough to get a fair assessement of the golf course because the back 9 holes were closed and the front 9 greens had been aerated the day before we played. It's not the course's fault (I mean, they have to perform maintenance at some point and took advantage of the off-day due to bad weather). However, I believe that "Golf Now" should of had some sort of warning or message prompting the conditions that we were signed up for. If there is such a feature, I apologize but we had no idea the condtions of the course until our arrival. Fortunately, the Proshop was aware of the situation and gave us a steep discount ($25/person) and let us play the front 9 twice for a complete 18. It was a worthwhile compromise but we were dissapointed that that "Golf Now" didn't indicate maintenance.
average course
way over priced for the course conditions. but it is a fun lil course
Always in good shape
Great staff Very good golf course . it is a very fair layout .
Great Value, solid course
Absolutely love this course. Played it during twilight twice in the last 2 weeks. First time we started on the back nine and almost finished before it got too dark. Not bad for starting a foursome at 4:30. Yesterday was a 3some at 4pm and we got through all 18 with relative ease. The course was emptier than last time but most likely due to the heat that we've been getting. Love that the cart girl actually does a "last call" drive around the course before they shut down. Course is well maintained, even though the ground was pretty dry, again most likely from the heat. Last time it was much better.
Pricey but nice facility
Nice facilities, friendly staff, teed off on time, and had sub 4 hour round. Course is short but fun. $85 a man for a weekend tee time isn't too bad, but the just above average course conditions might not justify the price for some.
Excellent value including cart. Course very well maintained, moderately challenging design and a beautiful resort facility to enjoy lunch or dinner.
My wife and I had a most enjoyable day of golf and dinner at this well maintained resort course which is available at excellent prices including the cart. The course was comfortably challenging with many picturesque holes to enjoy the incredible San Diego "made for golf" weather.
Following our round of golf which took a reasonable 4 1/4 hours, we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the resorts newly designed restaurant Avant
Highly recommend this course and the resort facilities whether going for the day as we did, or if you are staying at the resort.
Tough course
The course has a lot of hard ground and high fairway grass that grabs your club, but its nice and tough.
Very nice course that is well maintained but way overpriced.
The course is generally very well kept and the greens are typically very well maintained and not as fast as many other courses around here. Fairways show some wear, but are generally nicely managed. The same goes for the tee boxes. I'd say the greens are probably the best aspect of the course. They are maintained in beautiful condition.
Parking is free and in a nearby parking lot, but if it gets crowded it can be hard to get your car out since the spaces and the lot is small. If there is an event there, then parking can become a real drag.
The only truly negative point is the cost of the course. If you are playing on weekends, or do not get a twilight or other rates, the cost to play here is just not worth it. You can play much better courses for the same or just a little more than what is charged here. If you are looking at paying the maximum here, do your homework and look up some other courses. You will get a much better value for your money. However, if you can get the reduced rates for twilight or a special, then it is a fine place to play golf.
