would have had a better score of it wasn't for the first two holes Photo submitted by champ471 on 06/17/2014
Good Course
The front nine is very tight. You need to be strategic with your shots. This was my first time playing this course. I would recommend playing at least twice or more. You need a round to understand where to hit the ball. The greens are very fast. They were hard for me to read them well, however I play in Florida and the grass is very different. I want to play it again.
Frustrating Experience at Improved Golf Course
The completed construction has greatly improved the course conditions and quality. I'm not sold it's worth the $110 they charge on the weekends, it's not even close to Tijeras Creek, etc., in terms of quality, but it is pretty fair for a good quality golf course in San Clemente.
The major problem is that this course sends players off the back 9 only two hours into the morning round, on the weekend! We were the first group out at 6 AM on a Saturday, no one in front of us (aka why we are waking up to play at 6 AM and still paying full price), and we pull up to hole 10, after playing 9 empty holes, with 2 foursomes out in front of us! Even more incredibly, there was ANOTHER twosome behind us to play just the back 9. So that means 2 hours into our round, there were 4 different groups sent to hole 10 at around 8 am. On a Saturday.
This course used to pull this move when all the construction was going on, etc. But I assumed that when they are charging $110 to play this well maintained, albeit pretty generic golf course, they would not be sending people off the back on hole 10 at 8 AM, on the weekend.
We were the first group out and it took 4 hours plus to play 18 holes on a sub-6,000 yard course. For $110. Yeah, no thanks!! I will not be coming back here because of this. This is a really a shame because as I mentioned in the first sentence, the course has really improved a lot, even if it is a bit overpriced.
That samm dude needs a reality check
Get a load of that samm dude’s 5 star review. Lol “dont look at all the bad reviews” ? You’re joking right, clearly you work there. No one in their right mind would be happy paying $100 for this course and the highlight of the round is the greens having the water rolled off lol. And still brings up the fact the fairways are dry and patchy haha. Then the comment about the 15 handicaps. I am a 5.5 and still hate this course because hacks like you are looking for your ball every tee shot. 15 is a totally acceptable handicap and you act like they don’t know how to play golf, any course that cant be played by a 15 handicap is not a golf course. Be real with yourself and go back to scrolling instagram when you dont have any golfers to check in to their tee times because clearly you work there lol
Average golfer
I play 3x a week for 30 plus years and have played most every club worth playing in OC. Iam a 10.6 hcp.To put it bluntly any reviews over 2 stars are most likely employess and this course is a joke and the " ditch still applies " nuff said.
So much more work to do to improve the overall experience
Course is still too wet and uncut (outside fairways) to have a pleasurable round. Poor drainage still an issue. Marshals (1?) present but not focused on slow play. I’ll try again in a few months.
Don’t read the bad reviews
I was 100% skeptical about playing here after reading reviews. Personally the course is not bad at all and has came a long way.
Course has some of the best greens I’ve ever seen. We teed off at 7:10 and every single green has all water broomed off. The fairways are In good shape, it has your typical dry spots just like every other course has. The tee box's are in good shape as well.
I’m assuming all the bad reviews are anyone with a 15+ handicap that lost a ton of balls playing here. It’s a tough course and it’s tight. It’s not wide open like San Clemente Muni where you can play your ball after your 80 yards slice that ends up in the next fairway.
The only downfall is that the course is under construction currently. Will be back 100% when it’s finished.
To the owners of Shorecliff. Lower your rates to 45$
It’s crazy how this golf course doesn’t get it. Used to be a solid practice course and was legit paid 32$ 2 years ago and whoever took over decided adding some water and trees made it worth 120$ on weekends are you insane.??? It’s a dog track course so start treating it so. You need to be charging 45 max and your tee sheet will always be full. People posting it’s not that bad come on be honest.
The renovations do not equal the price hike.
Let's face it a couple fountains and new water hazards does not improve the fairways, the greens, the pace, the quality of the grass on the fairways, in the improvements on the clubhouse is not why you're paying to play.
This used to be an affordable course, including President Nixon's go to. I've golfed here since 1987 and I can get a much better deal with all the courses near shorecliffs.
I would rate this course a four across the board at the value of $50.
Average Golf Experience
Shorecliffs is a solid place to golf. Price is a little high for the current overall course conditions. However, the staff is incredibly friendly, clubhouse is in spectacular condition with the remodel, and the new golf carts are splendid. It’s not a matter of if but, when Shorecliffs course is finally updated and finished it could be on the upper end of courses to be played in Southern California. That’s just my opinion though.
Worst chicken Caesar wrap ever
This was my first time back since the new clubhouse opened and they got new carts… Still felt very overpriced for the actual golf course experience. Even with a wide open booking, once we caught the group in front of us on the 3rd hole, it was a waiting game the rest of the day and still took 5 hours for this short course. New clubhouse and new carts are cool but they the WORST chicken Caesar wrap I’ve ever had in my life. Wow it was bad. Bartender/server guy seemed to have zero industry or customer service experience or skills to speak of either.
Not worth $95 per round
Course in average condition.
For sure not worth $95 for the quality of the course
Golf course layout is weird a lot of tunnels
Fairways are narrow most of the time bushes in one side and a creek or hazard to the other side
Found a bunch of golf balls
Course bad condition
Horrible condition and over priced. Fairway all bad and green is not good. Should be 50 buck on Saturday max. Not over 100
First time in a few years
The course and layout are a massive improvement over the old days. Definitely worth a return...finally. .
Over priced
Have played here for over 35 years. They have major improvements but it is not $95 weekend golf course. 75/80 would better price
New Layout works!
They recently changed things around and have a few new beautiful holes. Still having some work done but once its done it will really be a fun affordable course.
You've got to be kidding . Sorry but a couple of ponds and needed maintenance on fairways does not constitute a renovated course
Simulation Golf better option than Here
In the bar might be a better choice as wont have to wait as long. Used to play here alot and liked it better when it was in worse shape but a much better value. Upgrade of parking lot and clubhouse dont justify the drastic price increase! Wont ever come back as mgt doesnt listen and no existence of a Marshall either to speed up play.
Best of luck Shorecliffs to you in the future but my dollars will go elsewhere. Maybe have better luck promoting the restaurant and bar.
Awful and too expensive
A new clubhouse doesn't justify a $100 round. Just looking around. Tijeras at 2 pm on Friday, $64.
Shorecliffs $73!!!!
Not even a consideration. Really unfortunate that they've increased the rates so drastically. I enjoyed this course in my youth, won't be going back.
If you want to play San Clemente, the mini has awesome rates for a great track by the ocean. But sadly, not so for shorecliffs. Just sad.
Your comments are spot on. Course is a joke.
