would have had a better score of it wasn't for the first two holes Photo submitted by champ471 on 06/17/2014
Simulation Golf better option than Here
In the bar might be a better choice as wont have to wait as long. Used to play here alot and liked it better when it was in worse shape but a much better value. Upgrade of parking lot and clubhouse dont justify the drastic price increase! Wont ever come back as mgt doesnt listen and no existence of a Marshall either to speed up play.
Best of luck Shorecliffs to you in the future but my dollars will go elsewhere. Maybe have better luck promoting the restaurant and bar.
Awful and too expensive
A new clubhouse doesn't justify a $100 round. Just looking around. Tijeras at 2 pm on Friday, $64.
Shorecliffs $73!!!!
Not even a consideration. Really unfortunate that they've increased the rates so drastically. I enjoyed this course in my youth, won't be going back.
If you want to play San Clemente, the mini has awesome rates for a great track by the ocean. But sadly, not so for shorecliffs. Just sad.
It’ll Be a Long Time Until I Play There Again
I have played Shorecliffs numerous times and this review has nothing to do with any of their staff unless they are in charge of the price and course conditions. All the times that I have played the course has been under some type of repair or up grade. Par fives have been split into par 4’s and then a par 3. Tee boxes are always beat up, greens are in good condition but sometimes impossible to putt due to their ridiculous roll and pitch. Most fairways have some type of wet mushy area. They dumped a ton of money into new carts, parking, practice putting green and then jacked up the prices to balance it out. I think the course needed more improvement. Think twice before you pay the price and learn the lesson for yourself.
Not worth the fee.
At the most they should charge the same price as San Clemente Muni,
Not worth the price
My friends and I played this course for the first time over the weekend. We are all between 18-24 on the handicap, and were looking for a fun course to play. Things went awry right from the beginning, as we arrived at the course at paid we learned no driving range. No big deal, they had a nice practice area and putting green. When we got to the first tee, it was then that we learned the course was under repair...after we paid the full amount and arrived on the 1st tee!!!
On-line the course says it is a Par 72, 6,100 yard course. We learned after paying that there has been SIGNIFICANT damage to this course and as a result they had cut one of their few Par 5's in half to create 2 holes, and changed other routing. The course ended up being a Par 69 ( 36 front, 33 back) and somewhere around 5,500 yards.
The course condition was NOT good, s the fairways were wet and muddy, the tee boxes were not flat, no cart girls and no GPS. While this was certainly not the worse course that I've played, it was NOT worth the $105 they are charging. They don't inform you of all these things until you get there and pay, so be aware! I would NOT recommend this course at their current price, there are MANY better courses out there. Hope this review helps some of you.
Stay Away
Overpriced, course condition is bad, you can find better deal within 10 miles drive. Do not recommend. The green fee has been significantly raised while course has gotten worse in shape, what an embarrassment.
Is this a joke?
I can't believe they can get away with charging $95+ rates for an unfinished golf course, what is Troon doing? This place is actually embarrassing. Cannot believe I thought this place was going to be different than it was 2 years ago when the rates were $30. The course is almost exactly the same aside from some water being added and the front and back 9's are swapped. Other than that, it is the same old Shoresh*ts. You would think the course would be wide open, but they must be letting kids on for free or at a different rate because there were hacks on every hole hitting 5 balls each and in the bushes on every fairway looking for balls. We told the marshall the one time we saw him and he could not care less, drove right past them. The pace of play is like a sunday afternoon in leasure world, I honestly feel like I got worse playing that course. If you look up dog track in the dictionary, it should just show a picture of this course.
Overpriced
Never in my life would I suspect Shorecliffs asking $75-$90 for a round. It used to be $25-$35 5 years ago
Come On, 80 plus dollars to play this place on a weekday is an absolute joke
Come on Troon, what do you think you have here? there's no way this course should be over 50 bucks let alone plus 80 on weekdays and 95 bucks on weekends? No Senior rates and 68 during the week for Veterans, Absolute joke. If anyone thinks that this course is a rival to Arroyo, Tijeras price wise, needs to have their heads examined. Wasn't at all impressed with the inside of the new club house either. And the carts, welcome to cartopia at Disneyland, mirrors, turn signals, horns, horrible parking brake. And an off brand. Musta got a good deal on those? No wonder your tee sheets are wide open, last Wednesday at mid day the course was a ghost town. And to top it off, 80 plus bucks to play a par five split up into a par 4 and a par 3 with a temp green because the old #13 or now #4 par 3 is closed, being rebuilt. Wonder if the prices that Troon is charging are discounted for that? What happens when that hole reopens and the par 5 returns to normal.

Big upgrade from old version of course, clubhouse, parking, etc.
Last time for a while...
I've been playing Shorecliff for just almost a year - once/twice a month on average. After the last few rounds, I'm done for a while.
Course is still under renovation...just too many issues that never seem to go away. Wet tee boxes, too many "Cart Path Only" holes, very easy to lose multiple balls given high/non-grass boundaries, no beverage card services, limited/poor water jugs with stale water, poor marshalling and numerous other golf edicate issues that are truly bizarre (e.g. the son of a sr. mgr. of course was using #10 hole as a personal driving range -- 15 tee shots, spraying all over course). Facilities continue to be promising but Mgt. has failed to complete in over a year. $80/weekday round is too much for non-delivery of basic golf course requirements.
OMG - run, run fast and far
What a joke on green fees here, course is pathetic, Troon should be embarrassed to even associate their name to this dogtrack.
Highway robbery
Do not play here. Pieced together golf course due to the new construction. Golf greens in the middle of the fairway to create new holes. Price was outrageous for the course. No liquor license which means to beer on the course. Will never play here agian.
WORST SUNDAY GOLF ROUND
I recently had the misfortune of playing at Shore Cliffs Golf Course in San Clemente, and I must say it was one of the most disappointing golf experiences of my life. Where do I even begin? First of all, the condition of the course was abysmal. The fairways were patchy and uneven, and the greens were in such terrible shape that putting felt like trying to sink a golf ball into a field of broccoli. It was impossible to get a true roll, and the inconsistent speed made it impossible to read putts. The bunkers were a nightmare. It seemed like they hadn't been raked or maintained in months. I found myself in bunkers filled with rocks, weeds, and even garbage. It's as if they just threw sand in some random holes and called it a day. Trying to hit a clean shot out of these bunkers was a game of chance. The layout of the course was also a disaster. Many holes felt cramped and poorly designed. You would think their brand new golf carts would have GPS's, but I guess they don't care about the golf, and just care about the image. Just like the new clubhouse, looks great, but the food is trash and over priced. On top of that, THERE IS NO ALCOHOL SOLD OR ALLOWED. The pace of play was excruciatingly slow. We waited on every single hole, and it felt like the round would never end. It's clear that the staff at Shore Cliffs has no control over tee times or enforcing any kind of pace of play policy. It was a test of patience, to say the least. To make matters worse, the staff was rude and unhelpful. It was as if they were doing us a favor by allowing us to play there. Customer service is clearly not a priority at this course. And let's not even talk about the exorbitant green fees, $95?! For the terrible conditions and overall experience, it was an absolute rip-off. I've played on championship courses for a fraction of the price and had a far better time. I would strongly advise anyone considering playing at Shore Cliffs to think twice. Save your money and your sanity and find a different course to play. It's a shame that such a beautiful location is wasted on such a poorly managed and maintained golf course.
Shocking experience
I just played this course last Friday and spent $95. The course was in the worst shape of any course I have played in the last two years. The greens were decent, the fairways were terrible, and the place of play was horrible. A par five had been made into two holes as the par three behind of it. It was being renovated. The entire course looked incredibly unfinished. I saw a Marshall driving around, but he never did anything about the group in front of us as they were hitting about 10 balls between four of them on every hole. I would expect to pay about $30 for the course. Granted, they are going through renovations and need to pay for the new clubhouse but they should start charging that when the course is completed.
Don’t bother
This is a terrible course. If the green fee was $40 then maybe it would be ok, but for $95…it’s a no go. The front 9 layout was awful. Probably the toughest course I’ve ever played. Tee boxes and tee placements were bad, bunkers were bad, greens were ok, rough was horrible. Lots of dead areas. The course has choose to spend its money on what looks like a brand new club house, EV golf carts with no GPS and parking lot, over what really matters in course layout and conditions. It’s absurd to charge that much for green fees when your course is that bad. I do not recommend the course at all.
The ditch
We have been told this course was going to be upgraded or renovated for 3 years now. What has been done is removed a par 4 and replaced with par 3s. Added a couple of ponds , removed driving range and clubhouse and increased green fees to almost double cost. I'll admit greens are great. Trees have been trimmed, Fairways still narrow and roll off towards drain area. So the nickname the ditch still sticks. Course is watered more and greener but still not much more then a executive course. Several courses nearby with much much better value such as San juan, talega, tijjeras creek, and we always have our the best muni in Southern California. Most days at approximately 30% capacity What does that say when most decent courses these days are operating at near capacity.
Course redesign and clubhouse is nice!
New course layout and clubhouse and parking lot is amazing. Very nice and worth coming here now.
What clubhouse it was torn down.
