Played 9 holes - course under development - can see potential

Sandringham golf club lies tucked between Australian Golf’s two bohemoths of Royal Melbourne and Victoria golf clubs. Those courses literally lie across the road/and in some places are just separated by a fence.

This is the first time I’ve been at Sandy for probably twenty years, and only 9 holes (spread across the entire property) were available due to the building of the academy and course redevelopment. The old first and 18th holes have been completely removed.

I’m excited about the new development. “Sandy” always has a true sand belt feel to it without the bells and whistles of its private neighbours (Especially front 9). Under course designer Michael Cocking’s redeveolpment I think this will change.

Already the green complexes and bunkering has been added and recaptures the feel of true sand belt golf. While the greens were a little furry today, with time one could see that this course would offer a great challenge and value to public golfers in the area.
