Cairndhu Review from an Amateur
I've played this course twice, once in glorious sunshine and once in torrential wind and rain, both times an absolute treat. Challenging, but exceptionally fair, this course gives the player opportunities to show off their technical skills on difficult holes, followed almost immediately by a few more forgiving holes so you never end up overly frustrated if today isn't your day, and rewards you handsomely if today is your day.
From an amateur perspective, this course makes you feel like you're Tiger Woods when you strike a shot you can be proud of, and pats you on the back when you slice it 60 yards off the teebox into either a stunning sea-view (I'm looking at you, Hole 2 😂) or into one of the beautiful tree-lines that populate the course.
Can't recommend highly enough, I would play Cairndhu every day if I could.
Well worth a visit - best course in the general area.
Great location with splendid views of the Antrim coastline and of Scotland.
First nine is particularly scenic although there is some interference between adjacent fairways.
Second nine has some particularly long holes, made longer by uphill fairways and if ground is soft due to wet weather.
Course condition is good - well maintained and greens are consistent in quality.
Spectacular Views
Unfortunately there was a junior competition on so when we reached the 9th we couldn't play on as it had been booked out which was obviously disappointing.
The official, who informed us, offered to give us another date or play the first 9 again.
It is a nice course, well kept and beautiful views.
It is hilly though, so not for everyone.
Lovely golf course with amazing views
It is challenging but fair
Flat lies are rare
Situated on a coastal headland with panoramic sea views
Brilliant, fun course.
We couldn’t have picked a better day for our visit, shame the quality of our golf couldn’t match the scenery and layout. Would probably hire a buggy if I return as it’s a tough walk, but it’s got some really good quirky holes, elements of risk and reward, and times when you need to plot your way around rather than pull driver on the tee (I learned this the hard way). Course was soft in some areas which is understandable for so early in the season. Will definitely return if/when I find myself in the area again.
Great course with amazing views
Great course. Very hilly, so be prepared and be very fit or have a powered trolly, or hire a buggy. Views are amazing, course is in reasonable condition for the time of year. Quite busy and you can get held up, but not too much. You'll still get round in reasonable time.
Cairndhu
Definitely recommend this course. 4 star rating due to the fact of the fairways possibly cut up a bit more. I understand why clubs push for the use of mats later into March. Really enjoyed the course though.
First outing of the year
Cairndhu is a good test for any level of golfer. Very little wind about on Sunday. Unfortunately at this time of year there is a lot of mud on the ball but a good day overall. I would usually take a buggy but none were available for some reason.
Stunning views
Thoroughly enjoyed playing the course! Stunning views came in on most holes! Enjoyed great views from clubhouse with tasty lunch! The only downside was that fairways were very muddy in lower lying areas and so extremely slippery! The course feels long with many stiff climbs and felt harder than its slope rating of 112
