The most pleasant, dramatic, flat-out fun surprise
At 6200 yards, it's not going to find its way into The Open rota. And it doesn't have the name-recognition of other buddies-trip must-plays ... and that's what Ardglass really has going for it. You just can't believe how good it is once you get there. Two holes in, and you're thinking, "Why the heck aren't more people talking about this golf course?!" The pictures attached to this review will say as much as I ever could. Ardglass has more character than other courses with larger reputations, and it's way more fun to play. I stopped here in between rounds at Royal County Down and Royal Portrush, and it was the perfect bridge. Those are challenging, championship-worthy tests. Ardglass is just freaking fun. With a five-year plan in place for improvements to the golf course, it's only going to get better.

Superb as always
A real challenge. Beautiful course, great scenery and friendly staff.
OH MY GOD!
What a course! Absolutely amazing from start to finish. The views are spectacular, and I believe you can see the coast from every tee and green - truly a wonder to be hold!
Some very daunting holes, including the first and the par 3 second. We had to contend with the wind which made it very interesting. Very scorable course that is full of challenge, and stunning views.
Staff were very friendly and the meal afterwards was very tasty. The clubhouse is steeped in history so definitely check it out.
An absolute gem that I cannot wait to play again!
Windy but worth it
Played this course four years ago on a sunny day with moderate wind. Enjoyed it then, and enjoyed it this time even though the wind was probably a three club wind when we finished. The dry weather had the fairways pretty firm and a little sparse in parts, but the greens were excellent. The views are spectacular. Wonderful clubhouse with the restaurant upstairs. Be sure to have lunch or stay for dinner if you were finishing late. Staff couldn’t be nicer.
Always A Pleasure
We played this course 4 years ago on a trip to Northern Ireland. We love it and knew it was a hidden gem, then at 25 GBP. It's been discovered! It's a challenging links course that has dramatic views of the coast. The holes are fair. The course is in great condition. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The club restaurant is reasonable, with a good variety of items, and delicious. My favorite.
Simply put: Ardglass is a joy to play
You'd be hard pressed to find a more fun course in Northern Ireland. From the first tee in front of the old castle clubhouse with the Irish Sea on the left to the 18th and the views and variety of holes in between, Ardglass is a roller coaster of fun and beauty that's difficult to match. The most difficult shot on the course very well could be the first one -- the tee shot up the hill to set up an approach to a small green perched up on a plateau. But by in large, this 120-plus year-old course is playable from beginning to end. After your round, you'll want to visit the 600-year-old castle clubhouse, which has an outstanding golf shop and restaurant and pub.
Great round again
Excellent course. Despite course adjustments, well signposted and great holes still. Stunning setting. Great friendliness too.
Worth the trip, even if a bit difficult to get to
WOW....First 6 holes along the rock cliffs and water. 10, 11, 12, & 13 along the water as well. View from many of the tee boxes are just incredible. Not easy to get to, but well worth the trip. Doesn't have as much high fescue to loose golf balls in, but can be penal if you spray the ball. Greens were terrific and fast, even in the rain. Pace of play was a little slow due to the rain, but allowed ample time for pictures.
Course great - weather made it interesting
Bought hot deal to gift as birthday present - initial impressions were fine looking clubhouse, great course, fabulous views, weather would make it 'interesting'. Was atrocious, pouring rain. Definitely want to head back in better weather.
Fantastic course
Played this course in very tricky conditions but have to say what a fine test it was. First 6 holes played along the coast with strong winds blowing tested all parts of your game. Few par 5s reachable in 2 also. Course in fine condition and greens ran smooth. Great value for money. Can't wait to get back
Amazing
Had an amazing day at the course. Course was playing great, staff very friendly and we'll the views from every hole are second to none!
What a day out
Course playing very nice, fairways an greens in very good condition, weather was great, can't wait till play again
A cool cliff-top experience in Northern Ireland
New sod-wall bunkers being installed throughout the course are giving Ardglass the shine needed to inch closer to the top courses of Northern Ireland.
There's a lot to like about Ardglass. The castle-clubhouse is reputed to be the oldest in the world, dating to 1405.
I've written a story about No. 1 being one of scariest opening holes in golf. It kick-starts a stirring stretch of five holes right on the rocky coast. Another amazing stretch opens the back nine - the scenic, downhill par 3s at no. 10 and 12 along the water and the signature par-5 11th hole that is pinched by a wall of gorse on one side and water on the other. The nearby lighthouse at St. John's Point also enhances the backdrop.
The naysayers point to the flatter holes "in a field" as a major flaw, but to me, Ardglass is as interesting and enjoyable as golf gets overseas.
Ardglass GC
I would imagine that there are very few days here that the wind isn't a factor on this course. If you've got one of those shots in the bag that consistently flies low, you will do just fine here. There's some history behind the walls of what is considered the oldest clubhouse in golf (dating back to 1377). The first 6 holes play dramatically along a rugged coast line before turning inland. The course will test your confidence and your nerve when you step onto the tee box of the par 5, 11th hole and you look out to see what is the most intimidating sight on the course. First your heart starts racing and then that little golfer in the back of your head starts screaming "How am I supposed to find that fairway from here?". This is the perfect moment to pull out that whisky flask from the bag and have a shot of courage. Ardglass closes out with a wonderful short par 4 to cap off your round.

Ardglass Ireland
This was the first time I had played at Ardglass and I will 100% be going back. From the 1st - 18th the course was in great condition, fairways and greens running quick and if you didn't hit the right line, water, bunkers, heavy rough made it difficult and even more so challenging to get that par!!
I would not hesitate to recommend this course to anyone who plays golf!!
First class experience
Historic surroundings. Dramatic scenery. Beautiful, challenging course. Welcoming staff. Friendly members. Delicious food.
Ardglass is golf as it should be.
Best course we have played
Even though we were using Winter Tees and preferred lies the course was still excellent. It is well signed for any newcomers to the course and the greens were in great condition. The staff in the shop and on the course were friendly and helpful.
