Top Par three course !
The Temple is a par three course quite a rarity is so far that it has 18 holes as opposed to the usual nine holes and going round twice . Really is as good as it gets for this type of facility no real complaints with holes ranging from 80 yards to 180 yards set in a parkland environment all in all first class and great value for money .
bring on the better weather
played the temple course a few times before, pretty soggy in places today which is expected after such bad weather recently, however because of that alot of the holes were reduced to basically pitch and putt, mats/tee boxes being brought very far forward. a little frustrating. greens were decent, a little soft but the ball ran well, despite alot of unrepaired pitchmarks. hardly anyone out today so pace of play no issue. looking forward to better weather and no more winter rules!
Par 3
Great course for those who haven’t played go a while and beginners.
Non paying walk ons slowing play
Slow play due to walk ons from the road, waiting 15 mins per tee box , rang reception who said they would send someone to check , never did will not be back again
Improvements Required
This 18 hole Par 3 course has the potential to be a much more attractive draw for golfers if a couple of inexpensive improvements are made.
1) Only the first hole has the number and yardage displayed. This leads to confusion when one reaches the second hole . Am I at the second tee or not? This confusion remains for the whole remaining 17 holes. There were two young boys playing in front of me. After playing for an hour I asked them how many holes had they played. They did not know and neither did I. There were no course cards avaiklable at the clubhouse on that day or indeed on the day one month previously when I was there just to see the layout. I was told at reception they were out of the cards for one day but I doubted this as it would be a very strange coincidence that they had no cards on just t he twon days I was there!
2) Directions from the green to the next hole would be welcome especially on the first five holes
I can asure you that if the above recommendations are implemented that golfers would enjoy the experience much more, would return more often and recommend others to play the course. This Par 3 course is kept a secret. I live in Carryduff and until recently a memeber of Ardglass GC for 40 yeras. This course was never mentioned to me and anyone I have asked since I played it did not hear of it eitnher. Get the recommendations completed and do some advertising and the income will increase substantially
Needs some markers
Tee boxes have no markers on 80%. Not that hard to have some next tee markers and numbers on the tee boxes with some distance indicators. Just strange that this is overlooked. It’s not a cheap course even if it’s a par 3. The main course was not much better when I played it a few weeks back.
The spot
Well kept greens lovely place to play temple 3 offers a lot for short game that really helps
Slow play , otherwise decent
First time playing at the Blackwood , as a one ball I was hoping to get out first but left it late to book.
Ended up being paired with two other guys such in the GolfNow way but they were happy enough to let me play through. I then spent the next 17 holes behind the slowest 2 ball I’ve ever played behind (given it was a par 3 course). Marking every putt , trolleys in front of every green etc
Not a massive reflection of the course but important to know before you book.
The course itself is well laid out in terms of how the holes flow , albeit there’s next to no signage from hole to hole so i was just following the group in front.
For 14 quid you’re getting good value , but if you want to get round in less than 2 hours- go out as early or late as you can.
Most greens very well kept given the wet summer and the pro was very welcoming.
If you’re looking for something different and want to hone your iron play off the tee, it’s definitely worth a go
Course closed
A reflection more so of GolfNow than the club but course closed, no notice from either party. Drove from Lisburn just to be told to go home now have to chase GolfNow for a refund.
Beginner
Husband took me as I am keen to learn. We had a great day of golf and a lovely meal to end the day
Par 3 @ Blackwood
Excellent par 3 . well maintained although they could do with changing the flags. Friendly staff with an excellent restaurant which we had a fry up in after. 5 stars.
par 3 course
It was just ok play slow shop staff even slower getting us out on the course.
Arrived in plenty of time by the time we were able to make it to the tee box it was over 12 minutes past our tee off time
Perfect short game practise
Best par 3 course I've played. If you want to hone in your wedges and short irons this is a great course to play. 18 par 3s, all of which are great holes. The greens are kept to the same standard as the main course and make for perfect practise greens. This is my choice over the range any day.
